We arrive in English. I meet the teacher. I sit next to Mackenzie at the back of the room.
"You like her don't you?" MacKenzie asks me.
"What?" I reply
"You like Aubry."
"No!" I blush.
"I saw the way you watched her as she walked away."
"No I- I don't like her."
"Don't worry. I wont tell anyone." She says. I huff but smile.
The bell rings and the teacher, Mrs. Holliday started class.
"Today we are going to be playing a game." Everyone groans. "We will be dividing teams up, boys versus girls."
All the guys, including me, group up. They put me at the front of the line. The women put Mackenzie up first.
"The first question is the Sphinx's riddle. What walks on four legs in the morning, two in the afternoon and three in the evening?" They all groan. "It was in the book."
"May I answer?" I ask. She nods. "The answer is man."
"Correct!"
"How did you know that?" MacKenzie asks.
"I read it. It's a really good read." I walk to the end of my line. The women were down one.
As the game progressed, the guys were losing. It was down to four guys and four women. I was up again.
"Last question. If guys get this, they win. If the women get this, they win. The question is 'What does the name Oedipus mean?'"
My opponent looks worried. I say, "Swollen foot."
"Correct," we cheer, "The guys win."
The bell rings and everyone grabs their bags.
"How'd you know all that?" MacKenzie asks.
"Your notes." I say. She smiles.
"Lets go." We laugh as we walk out of the room.
