(Thursday)
After school all my friends made plans to watch Jason and Frank play in their first football game of the season. Our whole school was wearing their school apparel in support of the game. Apparently this was one of the biggest games of the season. Jason and Frank had a meeting with the team at lunch so they were absent. During greek Percy filled me in on the history of these two teams.
"Last year when we played them they gave 3 guys on our team injures. Not huge injures but enough to get them to sit out a good half the season. And the year before that a huge fight broke out at halftime and half our team got detention for that. 3 years ago when I was a Sophomore the two teams went into two extra overtimes and it was one of the best games in our Goodie football history. We ended up losing, but still it was epic." Percy said twirling his pen.
"Why don't you play football?" I asked all the sudden. It was a question that has been on my mind all day. Percy shrugged.
"I don't know, I guess I've never really thought about it Wise Girl. The thought of getting hit by a 200 pound guy also doesn't appeal to me." He said. It then got quiet between us as we worked.
In English Paul... no Mr. Blofis announced we will be reading the Iliad. I heard a lot of groans from students. I personally was excited. He called Percy up to his desk to talk to him. When Percy got back he was smiling. "What did Mr. Blofis tell you?" I asked. Percy handed me his book. I noticed that it was written in greek.
"Paul got me a copy of the Iliad in greek so it's easier for me to read with my dyslexia." He said smiling.
"That's great Percy!" I said just as the bell rang.
The football game was at 6:30 so I had time to go home before hand. Percy said he would pick me up at 6:15.
I heard the doorbell ring as I was upstairs getting a coat. My little twin brothers ran down stairs to answer it. I heard then peppering Percy with questions like "how old are you? Can you drive? Do you like my sister? Are you her boyfriend? Do you think she's pretty?" They asked. I lingered in my room a little longer to hear his response to the last 3 questions. Percy tried to answer the questions as fast as he could.
"I'm 17 and yes I can drive, I am your sister's friend not boyfriend. And yes I do think she's pretty." Percy said. I felt like I was floating. He thought I was pretty. Sure he's told me I'm beautiful but that was to make me feel better, this was different. I decided to come down the stairs and save Percy from anymore questions. "Hey Wise Girl! You ready?" Percy asked.
"Yep. Bye Matthew and Bobby." I said as we walked to Percy's car. They waved and made kissy faces at me behind Percy's back. I blushed and rolled my eyes at them.
When we got there we spotted Thalia, Nico, Hazel and Grover the parking lot. Piper was already with the cheer team. We said hi and walked in. I could see the football team warming up. I squinted at the field trying to find Frank and Jason. "Jason the QB and Frank's a running back." Percy said pointing to them as if reading my thoughts.
"How did you know I was looking for them?" I asked Percy.
"Wise Girl I can read you like I can read a big wave coming when you surf." Percy said laughing. "For example I know when you're nervous you chew on you lower lip, and when you're lying you look around the room avoiding eye contact. Oh and when you're thinking hard you fiddle with your fingers. And don't forget when I say something stupid you get that look on your face that says 'I want to kill you right now'." Percy said. I stared at him shocked. No one's ever been able to read my emotions that well. I turned red from embarrassment. "Don't be embarrassed, it's cute." He said winking at me. I was about to say something back but Nico called Percy over to go get food with him. Leaving me sitting there dumbfounded by what Percy jest said.
