G W E N and Harry followed Felicity through the halls, unsure whether they were actually going to meet this so called 'Steve'.
Her friends trailed behind her as they left the building and she approached a man sitting on a bench, reading the daily newspaper with a baseball cap in his lap. An image of her flying was on the front cover. NEW MYSTERIOUS SUPERHERO SPOTTED IN QUEENS, stated the headline.
She wondered if he knew that was her.
"Do you think that's him?" Gwen asked Harry quietly behind her.
"Maybe," the boy whispered back.
"Hi, Steve," she said and pulled her backpack higher over her shoulders.
He folded the newspaper and tucked it inside his coat. "Hey, Fel," he smiled warmly despite the cold conditions.
"Oh shit," Harry cursed softly behind her, but loud enough for everyone close to hear.
She turned around and saw her two friends staring at Steve with shocked and excited expressions. Gwen, however, was practically staring at Steve with heart eyes.
Steve raised his eyebrows at his choice of language, rising to his full height. He towered over the three teenagers like a giant despite Harry almost matching his height. Harry was a string bean compared to Steve.
"Good afternoon, sir," Harry said with a stupid grin spread across his face as he gazed at Steve with admiration. He was too excited to utter a word.
She fake coughed to smother the laughter that wanted to escape. "Steve, this is Harry and Gwen. They're my friends."
Gwen twirled a strand of blonde hair around her finger. "It's an honor to meet you, Mr. Rogers."
Steve chuckled. "It was a pleasure to meet both of you." He then turned to Fel. "Ready to go?"
She nodded, said goodbye to her friends, and walked to Steve's black motorcycle.
Steve handed her a black helmet to put over her head. "Safety first."
She groaned. "Really?"
"Yes, really," he mocked her tone with a laugh, pulling the baseball cap he wore over his eyes so others wouldn't realize who he was. "Hop on."
She slipped it over her head and climbed on after Steve, wrapping her arms around his torso. He drove them to the nearest donut shop about 10 minutes from her home.
He parked in front of an open parking-meter right in front of the shop.
She took off her helmet and handed it to Steve. He pressed a button on the top protective gear and it shrunk into the size of a rubics cube. "Handy, huh? Tony made it for me." He slipped it into his coat pocket, then proceeded to put quarters into the parking-meter.
