I spent the next few days loitering around the mansion, annoying Masky and Toby, babysitting Sally and Lazari, and generally making a nuisance of myself. Alice made more appearances, muttering snide comments and complaints in my mind. One afternoon I had to watch Sally for Slenderman while everyone else went hunting. I was in a foul mood from being left behind. I was bored, and craving the exhilarating feel of a kill again. Sally did her best to cheer me up. She rummaged around in her box of toys, before coming up with one dressed in a grey top, black pants and brown boots, matching my outfit almost perfectly. The doll also adorned a head of long, tangled white hair. Sally giggled.
"She looks like you!" She pointed out. Alice laughed quietly in my mind. I frowned.
"I don't see it..." I muttered, before grabbing a different doll from the box. It was a boy, dressed all in black and grey. It even had little yellow eyes, and yellow stitching. A small smile tugged at my lips.
"This looks like Puppeteer," I said quietly to myself. Sally looked up and nodded.
"All of my dollies look like everybody here!" She squeaked. Alice's anger had returned at the mention of Puppeteer. She knew that when he was around, she wasn't.
'He's a murderer, you know,' she taunted desperately.
I smiled and replaced the doll, bad mood gone.
'So am I.'
I stood up from the table Sally and I were sitting at.
"Sally," I said, reaching for my scarf. The little girl stared at me with knowing, intelligent emerald eyes.
"I'm going to go and see Puppeteer, I will be back soon, okay?" I told her. Sally nodded solemnly.
"As long as you get the fruit loops down from the top cupboard," she bargained with a cheeky grin. I returned the grin and walked into the kitchen, Sally trailing behind me. I grabbed the box of cereal down from the cupboard, and passed them to Sally, along with a couple of chocolate bars.
"Don't tell Slendy," I whispered dramatically. Sally giggled and held out her pinky finger. I shook it with my own.
"Pinky Promise Zero!" She promised. I winked and set off.

"Zero! I'm glad you're here!"
As soon as I opened the dark door in the tunnels, Puppet's voice called out to me, clear as a bell. I smiled happily, and cupped my hands around my mouth.
"Catch me!" I yelled, and jumped into the room.
The air whipped my hair into my face, and I let out an exhilarated whoop. Finally, two arms wrapped protectively around my waist, and my face was gently pulled into a solid chest. I wrapped my own arms around him as we slowly touched down. Puppet grinned as he let me go.
"So what brings such a fine lady such as yourself to such a horrible, dark place such as this?" He said, putting on an authentic sounding English accent. I giggled, immediately cursing myself for acting so childishly. Puppet didn't seem to mind however, as he grabbed my hand and pulled me along.
"Come on, I want to show you something!"
I gripped his hand tightly, enjoying the feeling as much as not wanting to trip in the darkness. Finally, we came to a small desk, with a load of little trinkets and papers spread out on it. I stood there, confused, as puppet used his rope to switch on a little marionette shaped lamp. He picked up a piece of paper.
"I was researching things about that little voice in your head," he began explaining. I grimaced, thinking he was about to tell me I had schizophrenia or something, but as he handed me the old paper, I realised it was about possession. I looked up at him, frowning slightly.
"You're not going to try and exorcise her are you?" I asked worriedly, "because that would most likely get rid of me."
Puppeteer laughed and shook his head, his long, dark hair flicking into his eyes. I had to resist the urge to tuck it away.
"No, no, nothing like that," he assured me. He took a deep breath and began to explain.
"Well, apparently there have been a few different reported occurrences over the past 100 years or so. Two of those people who were affected gave interviews."
Puppet slid two photos of a terrified looking girl, and a haughty looking male.
"One of those two was still being 'possessed' by something. The thing spoke to the interviewer, telling him that it was never going to leave the 'host'. Then it went away and the original man was back to normal. When the man's girlfriend entered the room, the possessed man wouldn't, or couldn't speak, and began to have a seizure. When he woke up, it was the thing that had possessed him speaking. He said that the girlfriend was it's soulmate, and that she brought on such a wave of emotion that the original man had been permanently silenced.
The other person went the other way. She was possessed, and she found a way to get rid of the original girl's soul. Only it backfired. Maybe she got the spell or whatever wrong, but she accidentally erased herself, leaving the girl in charge again. The girl was never the same again, but from what she told her lawyer, the thing possessing her had pretended to be her friend as a child, and finally showed its true nature when it forced her to kill her family, and took over her life."

I stared, wide eyed at Puppet as he finished explaining.
"Just like me," I whispered. I set my shoulders straight and cracked my neck.
"Do you know what spell she tried?" I asked determinedly. Puppet looked worried.
"No, and I really don't think it's a good idea," he said firmly. I frowned.
"Well it's the only way!" I yelled, furious that he would try and stop me from winning my freedom and peace. He looked sadly at me.
"Zero, I don't want to watch you disappear," he said quietly. My resolve faltered.
"There isn't any other choice," I said softly. He looked up, staring straight into me. I swallowed.
"There is. We can find your soulmate, just like that other guy did. We can travel the entire world, and whoever you meet who makes you feel so strongly about them that it blocks out Alice is the one!"
I looked at my feet.
"Puppet... I don't even believe in love. How am I supposed to find my soulmate."
I ignored Puppet's attempts at protest and walked towards the small window of light way above. I waited with my arms crossed. Finally he came over. I felt his ropes wrap carefully around me, and we lifted into the air. As soon as I was set down in the doorway, I began to walk off, but a rope whipped around my arm, and pulled me back. I glared at Puppet, who replaced the rope with his hand.
"Maybe you just don't want to believe in love because you haven't found the right person yet. Let me know if you find the one who silences Alice."
With that he released my arm, and I stumbled slightly. I watched as he faded into the darkness, and the door swung closed. I exhaled, feeling tears well up in my eyes. I felt l had just lost my best friend. I shook my head and began the long walk back to my room.
