"Fuuuuuck!"
I threw my laptop across the room at the wall with enough force to shatter it into millions of little pieces.
"Oh shoot!" I swore again as I rushed to examine the damage. I picked up the biggest piece and dangled it between my fingers, letting it clatter to the ground again in defeat. The stupid piece of junk was just scrap metal now. My research for any spells to get rid of Alice was not going well. I heard Alice laugh at me.
'Well maybe you shouldn't have let me in on your little plan then Zero,' she taunted as I thought vengeful thoughts.
'Shut up you ignorant cow!' I yelled at her, scooping the broken laptop into my arms and bursting out of my room. Alice continued to annoy me as I made my way to Ben's room. I knocked on the door with my foot, and the small boy finally let me in.
"Ben, I need your help," I interrupted as he began to speak. He stopped and glared at the broken electronic I had dumped on his bed.
"What did you do?" He asked painfully, a hand over his heart. I rolled my eyes.
"Yeah yeah, I know, you want to cry. But can you fix it before Slender finds out?" I batted my eyelashes at the elf. "Pretty please?"
Ben sighed and ushered me out of his room.
"Fine! But you need to leave and let me work in peace!"
I grinned as he pushed me out the door.
"Thanks Ben!" I called as he slammed the door in my face. I shook my head and walked off, determined to continue with my research. Alice, however, had other plans.
'Why don't you just give up? I mean, your probably just going to end up killing yourself, so why bother trying?'
I scowled and refrained from punching myself in the side of the head to shut her up.
'Will you shut it? You sound very nervous and desperate. Are you scared that I'm going to get rid of you once and for all?' I teased. Alice scoffed.
'As if! I just want to know if-'
Suddenly her voices dimmed, vanishing entirely. I frowned. What happened? I looked up just as I crashed into someone tall and thin. It was Puppeteer. My breath caught and my heart raced, but then I remembered I wasn't talking to him. I snarled and pulled myself off the hard wooden floor.
"Shoot, I'm so sorry Zero," Puppet was saying, trying to help me up. I attend his hand away.
"Stop it. I'm fine," I snapped and pushed myself away from him, headed towards the stairs. Puppet ran to Cath up.
"Look, I wanted to apologise for last night. I was a jerk. I just didn't want to see you get hurt. I'm sorry. I promise I will help you find that spell, okay?"
I stopped and turned to him. His sweet face seemed distressed and sincere. My heart melted.
"Fine. I'm sorry too. After all the work you did to try and help me, I was a stubborn cow, and an idiot, and I really missed you."
Puppets eyes and face lit up at my words. I loved how happy he looked, and hated myself for ever hurting him in the first place.
"So what have you found so far?" He asked, floating beside me, a few inches off the ground as I walked downstairs.
"Nothing. And now I broke my laptop so I can't find anything," I admitted. Puppets eyes glowed brightly as he chuckled.
"I guess you weren't happy with your research results," he teased. I punched him lightly on the shoulder, and he pretended to stagger. I laughed at his dramatic move and rolled my eyes.
"Come on Special Ed, lets go find some info."Hours later, my eyes were extremely heavy from reading through the stacks of books and newspapers that were piled around me and Puppet. All these resources and not a single mention of a spell. My eyelids drooped, and I rested my head on the book I was reading. I slowly drifted into sleep.
Bang!
I was jerked awake to Puppeteer slamming a book down on the table with unnecessary force. I blinked at him, and he stood up.
"This is ridiculous!" He yelled at me. I shrunk back from him, scared of the uncharacteristic anger that radiated from him. I noticed the yellow glow behind his lips and eyelids was turning deep red, affected from his fury. I shook.
"Puppet, w-what's wrong?" I stuttered. Puppet stormed over and grabbed my chin roughly.
"I told you the spell isn't going to work," he growled. "You need to try the other way."
I tried to shrink back, but he had my face in his hands.
"What other way?" I whimpered. He smiled.
"This way..."
He slowly leaned towards me, eyes closed. Just as our lips were about to touch, I heard Alice laugh from in the distance. My eyes flew open, and I breathed heavily. Puppet looked over from behind a stack of books.
"Hey, Zero, are you okay?" He asked in concern. I felt sweat dripping down my face.
"Hey, it's okay, you must have had a dream," Puppet comforted as he wrapped an arm around my shoulders, holding me steady.
"I thought I would let you get some sleep since you've been so stressed." His face dropped.
"It must have been some nightmare. You were saying my name, and you sounded terrified."
I sniffed and looked up at him. It was then that I realised Alice must have planted the dream in my mind as a last ditch effort to scare me away from all of this. I wrapped my arms around Puppets neck, burying my face in his chest. I wasn't going to let Alice ruin anything.
"I'm sorry," I whispered to Puppet. He gently stroked my back.
"It's okay, your safe, I promise," he murmured. I closed my eyes, falling asleep again, this time, safe in Puppets arms.I woke to find myself laying on the couch alongside Puppeteer. I stretched, noticing his arm draped across my waist. I nudged him with my elbow and he stirred.
"Huh?" He mumbled sleepily. I smiled at the adorable sight. He finally opened his eyes.
"Oh, sorry, you fell asleep on me and I didn't want to wake you by carrying you up to your room, so I put you here, but you wouldn't let me go so I guess I fell asleep," he explained in one breath, looking slightly embarrassed. "Oh, and Ben dropped your laptop off in your room."
I rolled my eyes, still smiling.
"It's okay," I said. "Thanks, and thanks for not leaving me."
Puppet tucked a strand of hair behind my ear and dimpled.
"You're most welcome."
