Rose gave Greg a kiss on the cheek and walked back to the temple, humming to herself quietly. She felt very content with the world, and gave a grin to a passing human, who gazed at her, wide-eyed. Vaulting over the fence that blocked the Gems' side of the beach, she landed with a puff of sand underneath her feet and strolled to the door that led to the bowels of the Temple.
She was about to open the door, but she stopped herself and looked around. There was Garnet, meditating before the sea, peaceful and calm. Rose couldn't see Amethyst, but guessed that she was somewhere with Vidalia. But... where was Pearl? Rose turned around, peaked around the edges of the Temple, but Pearl was nowhere to be found. Rose looked to the sky and saw the inky blackness of night approaching over the horizon. Pearl was usually here training or lecturing Amethyst, who never listened to her. Rose felt something was wrong, and searched around the beach frantically.
"My Pearl!," she yelled running around the beach, searching everywhere. "My Pearl? Pearl!"
"She's not here," came a calm, quiet voice. It was Garnet.
"Then where is she?!," said Rose with growing desperation. "Garnet? Answer me!" Garnet sat there on the sand, unmoving, a block of red and black stone showing no emotion. "Garnet, answer me!" Rose shook Garnet, but the Fusion Gem still sat still.
Rose gave a cry of frustration and sprinted back to the fence, jumping over it with ease and proceeding to race a car until she reached the Mayor's building, and she leapt onto the roof of it. She looked around Beach City, trying to find a slim, pale figure among the mass of others, but she couldn't find one.
"My Pearl! Where are you?," she half-sobbed, half-shouted into the evening air.
