The racket outside outside our walls was deafening. The screams of civilians being mutilated and slaughtered rang in my ears as I hugged Komaeda, my boyfriend, close. Tears started to roll down my face as the pounding on the door grew only louder. I knew that we weren't going to make it out of this alive. I could tell that Komaeda knew this too, as he hugged me ever tighter, burying his head into my shoulder. I rested my chin on the top of his head, sighing. Then the song started to play.
It was faint, but we could hear it. The radio was using the last of its juice. And it was playing one of the most beautiful songs. So I sang along. I sang it to Komaeda.
"You are my sunshine..."
The pounding grew louder as Komaeda gripped the fabric of my shirt back, pulling me into a tighter embrace.
"My only sunshine..."
I could hear choking sobs emit from him, shaking his entire body.
"You make me happy when skies are grey..."
"I love you!," Komaeda cried out suddenly. "Please don't let it end this way!"
"You'll never know, dear, how much I love you..."
I continued singing as I held him tighter, tears continuing to roll down my face.
"Please..."
My voice cracked as I chocked on the last sentence.
"Please.... please don't take my sunshine away!"
I cried out the last sentence. He was the love of my life. And now he was going to be gone. And I was going to be gone. We were both going to be gone. My sunshine, my love, was going to be taken away.
The door was tore from its hinges, and was flung to the ground as the sound of gunshots rang out.
"Please don't take my sunshine away..."
