Michael holds up a finger as if to say 'just one minute' because they had just ordered their food. Calum leans his back on the counter and looks over at us, smiling, and offering a wave. I wave back with my own smile while Becky looks down and fiddles with the ends of her hair. Within a few moments of waiting three teenage boys make their way to us, pulling up chairs and screeching them across the floor while doing so.
"This is Lyndsey," Ashton says gesturing towards me. "I met her earlier in the one music store I was telling you about. And this," he says gesturing towards Becky, "Is Becky, her friend that I didn't think existed at first." He chuckles under his breath and I giggle a bit at his lame joke that no one else got. I probably sounded really dumb giggling just then.
"Nice to meet you, Lundsey," Luke says.
"It's Lyndsey not Lundsey," I correct him.
"That's what he said, Lundsey," Michael says.
"Yeah, Lundsey," Becky said, smirking at me.
"Shut up, you're such an egg," I told her rolling my eyes.
"So, What did you guys think of the show?" Luke asks. I look over at Becky to find out that she's looking at me and I can tell we both have to stifle laughter from that.
"It was good," I say. "It just made me really excited for the album that you know, well, hasn't come out yet." Thankfully they all chuckle at this.
"We're doing the best we can," Ashton says with another small laugh. Damn son stop doing that, it's amazing in person.
The converstation flowed easily from literally anything and eventually Becky became comfortable enough to join in and that made me smile. At one point she even made a pun that only Luke had found funny. After a while, Ashton's phone goes off and he excuses himself from the table, he lets out a sigh.
"What is it?" Michael asks.
"Apparently we have a curfew for the stupid hotel we checked in on so we've got to go or we'll be stuck outside for the night," he says. "I'm sorry to just cut out on you guys like this." He apoligzies to us. Shut the fuck up Ashton, you aren't allowed to apologize.
"It's fine, my dad will be wanting me home by now anyway, it's like- HOLY SHIT IT'S REALLY LATE MY DAD'S GONNA KILL ME," Becky exclaimes. It's 10 and we still have a two hour car journey to make. My parents were fine with me staying out late but her dad on the other hand, well he's a bit extreme with the time and permission and all that good stuff.
"Whoa, calm down there," Calum says with a laugh and she looks over at him with a nervous smile.
"Sorry, but shit I didn't know it was so late."
"It's only ten, that's pretty early."
"We have a two hour drive, so not really," She replies.
"Two hours?"
"Our mall sucks so we came here." Calum nods his head as if he understood when the little bitch came from Syndsey. You don't know how good you have it, Hood.
"Are you sure you aren't just crazy obsessed fans who stalked us here?" Calum asks her with his eyebrow raised and she rolls her eyes steals a bite of his scone that's laying on the table.
"You wish," She mumbles. Calum supresses a laugh and just grins to himself while everyone else just watches the interaction with grins themselves. Ashton looks at me and we lock eyes and he smiles even bigger and I have to look away.
"Would you guys like a photo or something?" Luke mumbles with a small smile. "I mean, you've got to go and you're a fan, right? I think this coffee shop closes soon, too." Becky nods and pulls her phone out again and gets straight down to business.
She stands up and Luke walks over to her and they stand over by the table and start taking a shit ton of selfies. Luke holds the phone and makes a stupid face and she does too and then they take a normal one.
"Dear god, delete that!" She shouts and hits his arm. I chuckle under my breath as I watch them.
"What about you?" Ashton asks me quietly. I hesitate. "We're taking one anyway." He says taking out his own phone and turning on the camera.
He scoots closer to me and stretches his arm out and puts it around my shoulder. We sat there really close as his other arms extends forward in front of us.
"Smile," he says before pressing the capture button. I smiled my best and he smiled flawlessly and it didn't turn out too bad.
He brings the phone closer to his face without taking his arm off of me and goes back to his contact list and makes it the default photo. My stomach does a back flip when he does this. He also changes my name to 'Lundsey' and I have to stop myself from letting out a laugh. He's such a fruit. I watch him open to his messages and see the last text sent.
I love you, too. <3
It was from a girl named Sharon and the photo of her was far prettier than mine. I felt my heart drop to my stomach and as he opened a new message and types in my name and attaches the photo of us, I lean back and subtly shake his arm off of me. I couldn't keep it there knowing he had a girlfriend. He glanced at me when I did it and slightly stifened himself. He sent the photo and put his phone up.
"There," he says, "Now you can have it, too." I feel my phone vibrate and sure enough there's the photo.
"I've got to get a photo of you," I say.
"You have one," He says. "Of us." My heart skips a beat at the word 'us' but of course it wasn't meant that way. I'm so fucking lame.
"But it has me in it and I'm gross so smile," I say pulling my phone up and taking a photo of him completely off gaurd. He looks ridiculous but still amazing. How do you do that?
"Lyndsey!" He says snatching my phone.
"No!" I shout attempting to take my phone back but he keeps a tight grip on my phone and doesn't let it go. He places one hand on my wrist and I feel eletricity course through my veins and I would be shivering from it if I wasn't determined on getting my phone. We lock eyes as we struggle for my phone and he rips my hand off it and wins. "Don't delete the photo, it's funny!"
"Fine," he says with a smie. "But I'll be taking my own photo, thank you."
I roll my eyes as he brings the camera way up high and smiles and presses the capture button. Whatever, at least I got a selfie of Ashton on my phone that he touched lmao.
He hands it back and I make his contact and add the photo.
I take selfies with the rest of them but none of them came out as well as the one with Ash. After we finish we all walk to the parking lot together and once we reach it, we give each other hugs.
"I guess we'll see you around?" Ashton asks.
"Maybe," I say even though it's unlikely. They'll be busy recording and doing shows and having fun with their high life while I'm preparing for school - I almost vomit at the idea - and panicking over finacial aid and job hunting.
Becky's already walking away as do the other boys but Ashton remains standing there and so do I.
"You doing anything this weekend?" He asks me, digging his hands in his pockets.
"No," I ask smiling. "Why?"
"Well, there's this party and none of the other guys want to go and I was wondering, if you weren't doing anything, you could go with me?" He asks. "I need a friend, I don't like showing up alone." Once again, I feel my heart sink deeper at the word friend. Obviously he would consider me as a friend because he has a girlfriend but the fact that he had to clarify it kind of stung. However, I wasn't going to pass this up.
"Yeah, I'd like that. What time and like where?" I ask.
"Here, and like, I could come get you earlier in the day around 5? It would start later, but hey, road trips are fun, right?" He cracks a smile and looks at me. I nod with a smile myself. Even if he was saying we were just friends I couldn't help but notice a playful spark between us. I hated myself for noticing it. It'd be easier to ignore it and him but goddammit, it's Ashton Irwin and he's perfect. "I'll see you then," He says turning around and walking away with his head down. I turn around and walk towards the car in the opposite direction but before I do, I notice he looks back at me and I swear I saw him blushing.
