Chapter 7: Super Last Minute Arrangements

Meghan tore the dress she wore on her 'engagement'. She realised that her mother was being very serious about this whole marriage thing. In Sylvania, child marriage isn't a tradition. Meghan's parents visited Yemen and India during the Summer without Meghan and Lindsey. Her mom so found out about their traditions, like marrying off children and having sex with cows. Meghan hated that the poor and innocent children in places like India get married off and get treated by their husband like shit. Meghan's mother wants granddaughters as soon as possible and she is relying on Meghan. She regretted sending Lindsey to college.

"Hi!" Meghan exclaimed to Neven over the phone. "Hello," Neven replied back. "I was wondering if you want to stay back and help out in band, cause Tina invited us," Meghan said. "If i don't have a lot of homework, then I can," Neven answered. Meghan wanted to say goodbye but Neven had already hung up the phone. Tina, Meghan's good friend and classmate had invited her to stay back in school to practise her band pieces. Meghan and Tina are good flutists. Neven is very average and she is often noted by the band members as the 'worst flutist'.

School lessons went by fast. Tina and Meghan went down together to the practice room. Soon after they met Neven and their other friend Lia, the girls carried their files, scores, music stands and instruments and headed out for a classroom. The began playing warm up. As soon as they played the first bar of their piece, Neven was still doing warm up. "Excuse me? You are totally wasting time! Please sit down here. I know you want the whole session to be just warm up!" Tina scowled at Neven. "I'm practising on my own. I can already reach middle g," Neven bragged. "Oh really? show us then," Lia replied. A squeaky and terrible sound cut through the noise those girls were making. Everybody covered their ears. "Oh my God. That was as though you were playing a piccolo, douche!" Tina responded to the horrid sound. "I know! I'm feeling deaf!" Meghan agreed.

Meghan and Neven hurried to the practice room to keep their flutes. They grabbed their bags and rushed out of the school. "I can't believe we stayed back and you ended up playing crap," Meghan scowled. Neven just kept quiet. As soon as they reached the general office, they saw Neven's father. "Wait. You were supposed send me back. Why is he here?" Meghan's heart sank. Neven's parents are always up to something to change plans for her and Neven. She ran out of the school building. Again, disappointed by Neven. She saw her father's car and quickly hopped inside. She kept quiet for the whole journey back home.

"I hate you, I hate you, I hate you, I hate you," Meghan murmurred. She threw her pillows and threw her pictures of Neven into the trashcan. She knew this time Neven was up to this.
