He slashed through the foliage, his feet pounding through the dirt. After running for some time, he had no idea where he was any more. All he knew was that he was in the middle of the woods. 'The...same woods that people said you should never go to...?' He stopped short panting and slowly looked around. 'Because of monsters...but monsters aren't real! They can't be.' Just in case, Eddie picked up a stick and a rock and started to sharpen the end of the stick to make a makeshift spear. Then he slowly continued through the woods.
Eddie fell to his knees panting hard. He hadn't run so much in years, and as the stars came out over the trees he lay staring up. Trying to catch his breath, he fell into a deep dreamless sleep, retreating into the familiar darkness of his mind. Over his head a shooting star flew out of sight.
Morning came with a blur of sounds. The rustle of branches from squirrels and rabbits, the noises of birds and swaying of branches as the wind picked up leaves and tossed them about. Eddie sat up gaining consciousness through the noise and looked around, half expecting to see the white pillows of a padded cell. But he hadn't been captured during the night; he was still stranded in the middle of the dense forest. And quite alone. 'At least I wasn't eaten by a wolf or something...' He shivered at the thought of what animals could be out here, when suddenly a bush rustled behind him. He turned on his butt, quickly picking up his stick, watching closely. The bush rustled again, and suddenly a little chipmunk jumped out holding something in its' mouth. Eddie sighed in relief and closed his eyes. He took a breath of fresh air then more casually looked around at the scenery. Something shimmered in the distance-something moving... he slowly walked toward it. It was a lake of gold! 'No...' He thought. 'Stupid...the sunlight's hitting the water making it shimmer'. He walked to the lake and sat down cupping his hands into the water. He splashed his face and hair then cupped his hands again drinking deeply.
