Ch 10 Briars POV
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I woke up screaming and covered in sweat. I had nightmares all night of my families' murder, except that this time the killer had found me too. I shakily wobbled out of bed trying to forget my nightmares. I found Adrian leaning in my doorway. He looked at me and stuck his thumb out pointing for me to go shower. I was perplexed for a moment but then remembered his stupid orders and disillusioned thoughts that I was suicidal. I mean yeah I wasn't eating but that was different....okay maybe not but either way it doesn't matter I'm stuck here until I can find my way out. I went and took a freezing shower to wake myself up and took my time dressing into the dark grey sweats and blue tee he'd left me. I pulled my hair into a tight ballerina style bun and went back out into my room.
I followed Adrian down to the dining area where he sat in his black sweats and dark green tee staring at me with what I thought was curiosity and, as crazy as I am for thinking it, concern. I glanced down for a moment at the food, a granola bar, two pancakes, and some orange juice. When I looked back at him he was no longer looking at me. I started to eat the food, finding the pancakes to be really good, but his toast and tomato soup looked pretty good too. Still in silence as we finished our breakfast I followed him down to an obstacle course.
"Run across that beam over that pool, climb up the rope to the monkey bars, swing across and then get up and over the brick wall. Go."
I didn't have time to register what he had just said but I assumed it wouldn't be hard to figure out. I jogged toward the beam, pulled myself up onto it and slowly began to wobble across. Now I, unlike most girls never did gymnastics when I was younger and I may be a spy but my balance is about as good as someone roller skating for the first time. I have none.
"I said, RUN" he yelled.
I picked up my pace, still not running, over to the rope. It was a few feet up and hard to get a good grip on. About three-fourths of the way up Adrian yelled "You have five minutes to finish or you do it until you get it."
I have a time limit!?!? You have got to be kidding me. I climbed faster and reached the monkey bars which were covered in what felt like grease.
"Are you fucking kidding me?!?!" I growled.
"Hurry up and stop complaining like a child" he yelled.
I swung across and used the little upper body strength I had to do so then climbed back down to the ground and ran over the brick wall. The brick wall loomed above me to about what I'd guess as six or seven feet, so a foot or two above me which isn't too bad. I tried to find cracks and bricks the stuck out enough for me to haul my way up the wall but my greased hands made it harder than needed.
"40 seconds".
I had about two feet left so I daringly chose to push myself up and jump for the top. My fingers gripped the top of the ledge and I hauled myself to the top, which let me tell you was NOT easy.
"10 seconds"
I wouldn't be able to climb down that fast, so I made a choice. I jumped. You know how to spell stupid head in five letters? It's spelled B-R-I-A-R. Talk about a dumb choice.
