Briars POV
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I stayed in the garden reading Beauty and the Beast again as I sat against a willow tree. I was surprised when Clara walked in.
"How'd you know about this place?" She smiled as she walked towards me.
"Well someone has to keep the plants alive." she held up a watering can.
"Oh." I laughed.
"What are you reading?" She asked while watering some roses. "Beauty and the Beast" she turned to me.
"Great story" she said and walked over to some daisies.
"It's kind of similar to me and Adrian's um story isn't it?" I asked half to myself. Clara put the watering can down and sat beside me.
"How so dearie?" her expression unreadable.
"Well I started as his prisoner, and I love to read too, and I don't know I just um...hate him less I guess." I trailed off embarrassed.
"But of course we won't end with a marriage and happy ever after sort of thing. Just something like I'm supposedly his equal or something weird."
I said, almost bitterly as I remembered our deal I had made what, weeks, months ago now? Her expression went from surprised, to mad, to empathetic.
"I should have figured it out before, I should have known." She said bitterly to no one. She looked at me and her scowl softened to look more solemn.
"Tell me what happened, from the beginning."
I told her about my mission and the trap, the deal I made with Adrian, all the training and his mood swings, what happened at the ball, and how I had been shown the garden. She looked at me thoughtfully before saying,
"And I thought he would have at least told you." I was confused as hell right now.
"Told me what?" I asked afraid of the answer.
"Dearie, he doesn't-" she was cut off when I heard an all too familiar voice.
"Clara."
I was surprised at the sharpness and even more startled when I look to see Adrian, he stood calmly but his eyes blazed furiously at Clara. If looks could kill......well Clara wouldn't be alive.
"A word." He growled.
Clara casted a sad glance at me and left with Adrian who slammed the door. I leaned against the tree confused about what she was about to tell me. Could I wait until she came back? Why was Adrian so angry with Clara? Will she be coming back? I had been on the other side of his anger and it was not a fun thing. I shuttered as I remembered the dark room and all the times he had pulled me around. Should I go see if she's okay? I thought for a moment and made a decision. I left the garden in pursuit of Adrian and Clara. I soon found myself outside his office eavesdropping.
There I heard the words that shattered not only my heart, but the trust I had put in Adrian.
