Briars POV
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We arrived at a huge palace where people were entering from all kinds of diffrent carriages and cars. Adrian helped out out of the carriage and told me to take his arm so I hooked mine in his and to my surprise he took my hand, and I let him. He told me it was a custom. I looked around to see everyone else doing the same so I didn't question it as his warm hand was wrapped around mine. It was nice, but I felt awkward. We walked inside away from the chilling winds outside. We entered into a huge ballroom filled with people.
"Stay close to me and do not speak unless spoken to." He looked at me sternly.
"That's so stu-" I began to protest but he cut me off.
"No, you'll listen to me." He paused then more gently and said,
"It's just a respect thing." I just nodded surprised at his mood swing. I swear hes bipolar.
He lead me over to a small table clothed in blue material with golden rims. It was really pretty for a table cloth.
"I'll get us drinks, stay here and don't get in trouble while I'm gone." He walked away.
I sat and studied the people dancing, they had this cold look to them, kind of like Adrian did when I first met him. "Well hello beautiful."
I turned to see a tall blonde with these icy blue eyes that sent chills up my spine as he gave me a look over.
"Aren't you something?" I blushed slightly and at the same time scowled at him.
"Come dance with me, drink some, loosen up." He said playfully.
"No thanks I'm okay here." I flashed a small smile. His smile faded and his eyes narrowed.
"That was an order, not a question." He grabbed my arm but let go when someone said in a harsh voice'
"Back off, she is taken."
I turned to find Adrian glarring daggers at him, surprised he came to my defense. The guy left annoyed ,but seemed spooked. Thank God.
"What did I say?" Adrian snapped at me as he sood over me. I stood up quickly and glared back at him.
"First he talked to me. Second why do you always think it's my fault. And third I could have handled it I'm not helpless, or taken." I retorted.
"Don't even start Briar I mean really-" He took a breath and looked back at me.
"Look, I'm sorry okay? And I only said that because people know better than to go after someone who is taken." I nodded at his apology and he smiled. We sat and had short awkward conversation about how nice the place looked and such for a while.
Then a waltz started playing and he grinned at me.
"Lets dance" I laughed.
"No way" I refused. He pouted and his eyes twinkled playfully at me.
"I said lets dance missy" He tried again. I looked away.
"I can't.........I don't know how to like waltz or dance or anything okay?"
He lifted my chin and brought me gaze back to him. "Neither do I."
The next thing I know he took my hand and pulled me to the dance floor. I put my hands on his shoulders and he put his on my waist. I tried to stay a distance away from him but it didn't work very well.
"Loosen up" He teased.
"And come closer you're too far. I promise I won't bite. Much."
He pulled me close, only inches away and smiled at me, I looked away. For not knowing how to dance he was really good at waltzing. By the end of the song I found I had unknowingly got closer so that my head was now on his shoulder. The next song begain but Adrian held his grip on me.
"Lets keep dancing, this is nice isn't it?" he asked.
I smiled some and mumbled a yes. We danced for awhile longer to the different waltzes and such then sat back down.
I got a drink but Adrian stopped me.
"That's alcohol Briar." He warned and I rolled my eyes.
"No duh" I responed.
"You would'nt handle alcohol well, and you're underage anyway, your only 16." he advised.
"I'm fine and your only 17 but you probably drink all the time."
I drank the glass. The alcohol burned down my throat but tasted good so I, feeling daring, drank another. I felt a little dizzy but I only had two drinks, although when I do drink, which is never I only have a sip or so. Sadly enough Adrian was right, I don't handle alcohol well so I usually don't drink. But I didn't care. I reached for another shakily but Adrian took my wrist.
"No more." he said. I pulled my wrist free and drank it anyway.
That's all I remember of the night from then on.
