I looked at the clock. It was almost time. In nearly ten minutes, Professor Celestino would annouce the names of the wizards chosen to participate in the Triwizard Tournament. I wondered how the Goblet of Fire would choose the champions. Like a lot of magical objects, like the Sorting Hat, it could think by itself. I was certain that the sorcerers chosen by the Goblet would all be qualified for the Tournament. They would be as powerful as they would be confident. Not much like me, I tought. Deep inside of me, I knew that I wouldn't be selected. I wasn't good enough. I never am.
But the tiny hope remained. Competing against Viktor Nikiforov as an equal. That's what I truly wanted.
"Speaking of the devil..." I mumbled. Viktor had come to fetch me. We were supposed to go to the annoucement together. Viktor's hair was flowing on his back. Some of it was falling on his eyes.
"I like your room," Viktor said and smiled.
"Thanks," I answered. I began to fidget on my bed. "You let your hair down ?"
"Oh ! I did," he realized. "I guess I forgot to tie it," he sighed.
"I think I have a hairband somewhere," I began to search in my luggage. "Here," I said.
"Whose is it ?"
"My sister's, I think. She always leave her stuff lying all over the place at home but it has its perks. As an example, I can have some of her hairbands. They're useful at times like this, not that it happens often," I rambled.
"I see. Would you mind to tie it up for me ?"
"Oh, hum, what ?"
"My hair," he stated.
"Ok, I guess."
He sat on my bed, his back facing me. I shyly ran a hand in his hair to comb it. It was as silky as I tought it would be.
"Viktor," I whispered.
"Hmmm ?"
"Never...mind."
I started to gather his silver hair in my hand.
"Ouch !"
"Gomen, sorry !" His hair fell out of my hands. He turned around.
"You're bowing ? Huh, Japanese courtesy," Viktor mumbled.
I tried to tie his hair up again. This time, I took my time and enjoyed the sensation of my fingers brushing against his hair. I had a weird feeling in the pit of my stomach.
"Be gentle," said Viktor.
"Hay !"
I flicked the black colored band a bit and soothed his hair.
"There, done," I announced.
"Thanks !"
He got up and stretched.
"Are you nervous ?" My cheeks turned slightly red.
"I have no reason to be nervous."
"Didn't you put your name in the Goblet of Fire ?"
"I did but...that doesn't mean that I'll be chosen as a champion. I'm not that talented," I exclaimed.
"Don't say such things, Yuuri ! You're a talented wizard. You just lack confidence. If both of us are chosen, even if we're competing against each other, I'll help you. We'll practice magic together until you are confident enough to do so alone," he proposed enthusiastically.
"I...don't know what to say. I want to but..." I sighed. What was the point of refusing his offer if that wasn't going to happen anyway. "Alright. Be my coach," I joked.
"Ура ! I surely will ! I look forward to this. Now, we have to hurry. It's almost time," he laughed.
The Banquet Hall was as crowded as when the students from Beauxbatons Academy and Durmstrang Institute arrived. We struggled to find a place to sit together. We were forced to sit so closely that I could feel Viktor's breathing against my neck. He looked at me and took my hand. I was instantly flushed.
"Yuuri, don't worry. Daijobu, as they say in Japanese. You'll be fine. We'll both be !"
"Oy, Viktor, what'cha doin' ?" A talk man with black hair appeared in fromt of us.
"Hi, Otabek. I'm just waiting for the annoucement with Yuuri."
"But you promised me we would listen to it together ! You said so when we put our names in the Goblet of Fire," Otabek complained.
"Really ? Sorry ! I am so forgetul when it comes to promises..."
"You can go, I don't mind. I mean, you promised to," I stated. I tried to force a smile but it came out as an awkward smirk.
Otabek looked at us suspiciously.
"If you say so. Good luck and see you soon, Yuuri," exclaimed Viktor.
"Yeah, you, too."
He left me and waved, smiling. I turned my attention towards Hogwarts' director. He was standing on the edge of the platfrom with all the other teachers seated behind him, a long wooden table in front of them. The Goblet of Fire had been moved to the platform. Professor Celestino put his wand up against his throat.
"Silence !" he roared. The room went dead silent. Not a single sound could be heard.
"Good. Now, I shall announce the names of the three students selected to be champions in the Triwizard Tournament."
He raised his hand in front of the Goblet of Fire. Its color changed from deep blue to bright red. It ejected a paper that went right into his hand. He looked at everyone and smiled.
"To compete as the Beauxbatons Academy's champion, Yuri Plisetsky, aged 15 !"
Yuri got up while his comrades were cheering. Laughs and enthusiatic shouts were heard.
"Yuri ! Yuri ! Yuri ! Yuri ! Yuri !" everyone chanted.
He smirked and took place next to the director. For some odd reason, he was wearing cat's ears on his head. Was he aware of that ? Professor Celestino raised his hand again. Another paper jolted up from the cup.
"The champion competing in the name of the Durmstrang Institute is...Viktor Nikiforov, aged 17."
Viktor joined Yuri on the stage. People rooted him on excitedly. He was looking at me and smiling. I knew you would make it ! I tought. The Gobled turned red again.
"The last champion, representing Hogwarts, is...Yuuri Katsuki, aged 16 !"
