"The rest of the candy is in the garage on a shelf by the red car," Sarah called out from the kitchen as I walked down the hall. Halloween had crept up on all of us and I was forced to wear an old slutty cat costume Sarah had dug out of her closet. I climbed down the few wood steps and grabbed the box on the top shelf.
Sarah was making Margaritas in the kitchen with Nathan stuck to her hip. We hadn't been on good terms, him and I, not since his confrontation with Lucifer. Speaking of the devil, I hadn't seen him either. It was as if he had disappeared off the face of the Earth. Three weeks had gone by and no sign of him, anywhere. Sometimes, I found myself searching for him in a crowd, or waiting for him to creep up behind me but he never did. And I felt I was going absolutely mad.
Sarah handed me a glass and slid one to Nathan. "To friendship," she raised in the air. Nathan glanced at me for a moment but broke his character and smiled, raising it up and kissing her cheek.
"To friendship," I forced a smile and raised mine, our glasses clashing together as Sarah laughed. I glanced at his hand placed on her hip and looked away once he noticed my staring. He was angry at me, you could tell. He had barely spoken two words to me since the night had begun. Actually, he had barely spoken two words to me in weeks. And I missed him. I took a sip and adjusted the tight leather costume clinging to my skin.
The doorbell rung through the house and I got up from the high stool and grabbed the box of candy. I poured some in the bowl and opened the door with a smile.
"Trick or Treat," Lucifer smiled back and my heart nearly stopped. He was in a suit full suit, his curly hair longer then it was last as I saw him and a pair of devil horns on his head. Sarah came up next to me and held the door open.
"Olivia, who's this," she turned to me and I opened my mouth, not a single sound coming out.
"We go way back, Olivia and I. We went to the same school back home, could never separate the two of us, right Olivia?" he smiled at me. "Anyway, I was in the neighbourhood and decided to stop by and say hi."
"Well then come on in," she moved aside and he walked through, brushing past me.
"You have a beautiful home," he paused.
"Sarah," she blushed, answering his question.
"And a name just as lovely," he kissed her hand and I rolled my eyes. Nathan walked into the room and stopped in his tracks, staring at him. You could see he was about to pounce, but he broke from his trance once Sarah wrapped her hand around his arm.
"Lucifer," he stuck out his hand towards him and his jaw clenched. He took it and squeezed it hard, but Lucifer only grinned.
"Nathan," he said dryly and his eyes trailed to me. I shrugged with large eyes. I had no idea what he was up to.
"Would you like a Margarita, Lucifer?" Sarah giggled as she said his name. She thought it was just part of his Halloween act.
"Why yes, I would love one," she grabbed his hand and took him to the kitchen.
"What is he doing here?" Nathan muttered angrily, approaching me.
"I don't know," I whispered. "The last time I saw him was weeks ago, same as you."
"I'll call for backup," he reached for his phone but I stopped him.
"Do you really think he'd come here without a plan? He knows you want him dead. He wouldn't make a move unless he knew exactly what he was doing."
"Then what do you expect me to do, Olivia? I can't just let him stay in her house. He knows where she lives, which means she can be used as his leverage. He needs to be taken care of."
