The cold winter air whipped past Victor Newman as he stepped out of his black Cadillac and slammed the door. He walked up the sidewalk to the doors of the Genoa City Hospital. He walked through two sets of double doors, past the front desk and to the elevator. He stepped inside the small square space and pressed the number of the floor he needed. As he rode up his mind filled with the same thoughts it always did on the ride. Would she hear him today? Would she move? Or would today be the day she opened her eyes after four years of nothing. That night Deacon Sharpe had attacked her and she fought him off had haunted him all four of those lonely years. If only he had been there on time to protect her. The kids said he shouldn't blame himself but he couldn't help it. As her husband he felt responsible for her in every way possible.

The elevator let out a loud ding and the doors flew open. Victor stepped out and took and immediate right all the way down to the end of the hall. In a secluded room with a security code that only a few people knew was his beloved Nikki. He punched in the code and entered slowly closing the door listening as it locked behind him. "Hello Sweetheart" he said pulling up a chair next to the bed. He took her fragile pale hand in his and kissed it gently, "Maybe today" he whispered. Every day for the past four years this was his day, he would spend most of it with her and then return home in time to have dinner and tuck Neveah in. Neveah, spitting imaging of her mother. Long blonde hair, sky blue eyes and such rosy cheeks. He loved that little girl just as much as he loved her mother. With the help of Abby and Summer Victor had raised quite the young lady. She would be four years old in a few weeks and every year her Birthday wish was always the same. "Mama" she would say as she would make an effort to blow out the candles on her cake. So much had happened in the past four years and Nikki had missed all of it.

Victoria and Billy had gotten a divorce but had a baby girl, Katherine Rose whom they called Katie/ Nicholas had married Avery and they had a son they named Chancellor Nicholas Newman who was just a few months younger than Nevaeh. Abby had married Dr. Ben "Stitch" Rayburn and they had just celebrated their one year anniversary and were expecting a baby. Noah had lost his fiancé Courtney tragically and moved to California in hopes of finding a better life. Summer was engaged to Luca Santori, not that anyone approved. Sharon was about to be let out of prison and Adam was on his way back to Genoa City. After Chelsea had vanished Adam went looking for her in an attempt to fix their broken marriage. He came up empty many times but now he had decided to call it quits and that should would never be coming back to him. His plane would be landing that evening and Victor had a car scheduled to pick him up. The most shocking thing that had happened though was the death of Katherine Chancellor, The passing of such a dear friend hit Victor hard and there were times where he thought he would never make it through. He still wasn't sure of how he would tell Nikki the news when she woke up, if she ever woke up.

"When will Daddy be back?" three year old Neveah asked Avery as she shoved another pancake in her mouth.  "Probably sometime before dinner like usual." Avery replied. She loved being married to Nick and she loved being the mother to his youngest son, Champ is what they called him. "Why does Grandpa go away so much?" the little boy asked his mother. "To see my mama, she's sick and needs to get better remember?" Neveah answered. She was very bright for her ae, probably because she was a Newman. "Remember Champ your Grandma is sick and Grandpa goes to visit her" Avery reminded her little boy as she cleared the plates from the tale. "Why is she still sick?" he asked still not giving up. "She had an accident honey" Avery replied putting the dishes in the sink "she needs to rest and get better." Before either child could respond he door opened to the Tack House and Nick walked in. "Moring troops!" he exclaimed as he walked into the kitchen. "We're talking about Mama again" Neveah answered hopping off the chair to hug him. Nick picked up his little sister, "She'll get better soon" he said. "Daddy is with her right now." The little blonde smiled. "I know I just talked to him about your Birthday present." He said putting her down. "That's right someone has a Birthday in a few weeks" Avery grinned. "What am I getting?" Neveah bounced up and down. "Why can't it be my Birthday too?" Champ asked his parents. "Your Birthday is soon after Neveah's don't worry" Avery ruffled his blonde hair. "What is it?" Neveah continued to question her brother. "I can't tell you but what I can say is it's something you're really gonna like." Nick laughed. "I know what it is!" nine year old Faith came running down the stairs with s huge grin. "How?" both Neveah and Champ whined. "Grandpa wants me to go with and pick it out" Faith replied pouring herself a glass of orange juice. "Are you going to go with him?" Nick asked. "Yeah, I know she's going to love it so I want it to be perfect." Faith winked at Neveah cross the table. "Okay that's enough Birthday talk Faith ha sto get to school." Avery said picking up Champ from his seat. "First day back from winter break ow fun" Nick chuckled. "I wish I could stay here with the munchkins and Avery" Faith sighed pulling on her coat. "Actually Summer gets them today so you and I are in the same boat kid." Avery informed her stepdaughter. The door opened and Summer stepped inside, "Morning!" she smiled warmly. 'Summer!" all three children rushed to her. "Wow everyone seems to be in such a good mood." She giggled hugging each one. "My pancakes will do that to them Avery blushed. "Oaky Faith we gotta go" Nick said grabbing his coat "Oh yeah have fun at school Faith" Summer gave her sister one last hg before she left with her father. Once Nick and Faith were gone Summer set the little ones up with a coloring book while she helped Avery clean up the kitchen. "I wanted to thank you for watching them today." Avery smiled as she loaded the dishwasher. "Oh no problem you know I love them" Summer glanced over at the two little ones in the living room "how is he?" she asked. Avery knew she was referring to Victor, "Well when he left here this morning he seemed okay but you know that's how he seems all eh time now, just numb." "I wish she would just come back to us." Summer sighed. Aside from Victor, Nikki being in a coma had hit Summer just as hard. She was extremely close with her grandmother and was even the one to help her decorate Neveah's nursery. "I know you do, we all do but Nikki will come back when she's ready." Avery tried to sound comforting but she was not sure of what the outcome would actually be. "I just wish she would wake up before my goddaughters Birthday . . ." Summer trailed off. Once Victor brought Neveah home he had asked Summer and Noah to be her godparents. It was strange considering she was their aunt but the two agreed. Since then Summer had felt a sense of responsibility toward Neveah. "Maybe she will." Avery said.

Miles away on an airplane bound for Genoa City sat a very uncomfortable Adam Newman. It had been almost four years since he had been back. Four years since he had seem his family. He had felt responsible for Nikki being in a coma, after all Chelsea was his wife and he had made a mistake in trusting her. For a while he wanted to fix things but now he just wanted a fresh start and to apologize for all the pain he had caused. He now had a sister he had never met, a sister who had been growing up without a mother. He could not imagine such pain, he felt sorry for her. He wanted to make things right with everyone in Genoa City he was a changed man. As the plane continued to fly Adam leaned his head back closing his eyes, rehearsing his speech to his father In his head. In just a few short hours he would be reunited with Victor and would have to plead his case if he wanted back into the family.
