Dan didn't wake up the next morning until he was starving of food. He groaned and slowly picked himself up, noticing Phil wasn't in bed with him. He huffed under his breath before pulling himself up. Dan yawned and rubbed his eye with his sleeve, that was loosely hanging, and his hand was inside the sleeve, close to being sweater paws.

Dan just had on a simple brown, oversized jumper, with rather small and tight shorts on. He was also wearing pink fluffy socks with polka dots, and his hair was just a mess of curls. He stepped off the bed and slowly made his way to the door. Dan really wanted to ask Phil about inviting Chris over.

Otherwise this was going to be the worst birthday ever.

Dan stopped as the door opened and shut. He took a few steps back "hey Phil c-". "I need you to answer a few questions" Phil interrupted, pinching the bridge of his nose. He saw the sad look on Dan's face and the sudden silence. "I'll answer your question later I just need to ask a few things okay?".

Dan nodded his head, the expression on his face not changing at all. He didn't know what sorts of questions Phil would ask now, only that they might be the same as when he first arrived at the job. Even tough Dan was deeply in love with Phil, and had his fingers crossed behind his back, hoping he won't be a trash bag in the end.

It's only been about a week or so, you never know.

"Dan? Dan!" Phil shouted, making Dan snap out of his daydream and look at him startled. "Sorry...I got distracted" Dan kicked his foot on the ground and awkwardly looked down, embarrassed. He felt the blood rush to his cheeks, making him just want to hide in a corner, and wanting to tuck his tail in between his legs like a dog.

"As I was saying" Phil said, lowering his tone, and taking a deep breath. "What's your color preference?" He crossed his arms professionally. "Uh...any!" Dan said, his gaze still fixed on the floor. "No no I meant as in your favorite color not black people or brown or white" Phil flicked his fringe back.

"O-ohh...." Dan came to terms and understood that Phil was not asking of his preference in colored people. He felt his whole face go red as he embarrassedly responded. "I really like the color black....". "Black?" Phil questioned, lightly tapping his foot on the ground, growing impatient.

Considering it was around two in the afternoon.

"Yes..." Dan said quietly, still keeping his head down, the embarrassment getting ahold of him. "How about we add a little bit of gold so it won't look like a funeral was planned" Phil responded, moving in closer to the smaller boy. "Then why did-" Dan spoke as he raised his head, shutting his mouth quickly.

"Ah uh shh" Phil grabbed Dan's chin and tilted it up, making him look at him. He chuckled and let go almost too immediately. "Now you may choose your own outfit for today". "But" he pointed a finger up. Dan held back a groan, he hated when he heard good news but there was always a bad twist.

"I have maids coming in to make you look presentable" Phil uncrossed his arms. "Yes I see that look on your face". "Phil I want chris to be here" he mimicked. "Yes Christopher can come". Dan smiled, giddily. He stopped as Phil said another "but". "It will be from four to eight" he jabbed a finger at Dan's chest. "No exceptions".

Dan nodded his head with a small smile, happy that Chris could come, but he couldn't have a sleepover. Talk about the worst way to ruin someone's birthday. Back at the orphanage, Dan had to beg a million times for permission for Chris to sleep with him on his birthday.

It was worth it in the end.

They stayed up to almost four in the morning.

Dan giggled to himself, forgetting Phil was in front of him. He stopped his giggling as Phil asked "what's so funny?". "Sorry" he responded and coughed. "Just remembered a funny memory". Phil hummed before he left the room and shut the door behind him. He didn't have time to look at the sad and disappointed face on Dan.
