chapter 8

Annie's pov

I wake up to a slap. I look up and my mom is there all wasted. She starts hitting and punching. I push her into her room and lock her door. I run to my little sisters room because she started crying. I hug her and tell her to get her backpack ready. I grab my phone and check the time. 12 At night!! Good thing Cole's still awake. I'm about to text him when I see Ryder texted me.

Ryder: hey I heard you blacked out are you OK? Text me when you get it. I'm worried are u OK???
Annie: I'm fine but I'm breaking up with u cuz ik ur using me. So I'm done with u don't ever txt me again. I can't trust u.
ends then she goes to Cole's texts
Meow                                                
Annie: Cole u awake
Cole: yea y
Annie: my mom got abusive 😭
Cole: seriously??
Annie: ye I think she was at a bar. Can we stay at ur house.
Cole:yea let me ask my mom.
Annie: k
Cole: she said yea so come over.
Annie: k be there in a few min

I grab my backpack and the extra one cuz tomorrow we have school and we have to stay over at Cole's. My sister is all packed up. We leave and knock on the door since it's like 3 doors away from ours. He shows us to the guest room. I hug him. He's shocked at first but then hugs back.
     "I was worried what happened?" He asks. We move towards the bed and sit. I look at my sister and she looks so peaceful asleep.
     "Well I was asleep and she slapped me and i woke up and she started punching me. I don't know what I did. So then I locked her in her room and run to Alana who was crying and I told her to pack. Then I texted you." I say.
     "Oh are you gonna be OK?" He asks worried.
     "Yea we'll be fine it's not the first time she's done this." I say recalling all the times she's hurt me and screamed at Alana.
     "WAIT THIS HAS HAPPENED BEFORE?!?!" He asks screaming but trying to keep his voice low.
     "Yea she sometimes gets home all drunk and stuff. Sometimes she brings her boyfriend home and he's just as abusive."I say with hatred.
      "Are you serious do y'all go to your aunt's??" He asks.
    "Yea but it's usually over the weekends that she gets drunk it's new that she gets drunk over the week. We probably have to stay here a few nights is that OK?" I ask worried he'll say no.
      "Yea it's fine my mom adores you guys." He says.
       "Thank God." I say. We talk for a few minutes but soon fall asleep in the bed.

Cole's pov

I wake up to smoke and mirrors a song that's Annie's alarm not mine. I look up and see Annie's hair. I then realize I have my arm around her waist pulling her close to me. I take my hands away and lightly tap on her shoulder to wake her.
     "Hmm... 5 more minutes please." She mumbles.
      "Wake up sleeping beauty it's time for school." I say. She jumps up at the word school. She then shoos me out the room so she can change. I laugh then go to my room and change into a comfortable shirt and jeans then grab my hoodie and head to make waffles. I put the waffles in the oven. I'm waiting for them to finish when Annie comes and she hugs me from behind. I turn around when I hear Alana giggle. She's taking photos of us hugging. I laugh and grab her phone and run. Annie watches us and laughs. Alana chases me and by the end of it she ends up deleting some of the photos only keeping one. We all laugh and I see Annie looks really happy. She is wearing a black hoodie and black jeans. She really likes black. My sister's bf drives us to school we drop off Alana first then we head to Phoenix middle. We say bye and head into school. I head to look for my friends but can't find them. Neither can Annie. We look all over school before it starts but give up and end up sitting together. For the rest of the day we just hang out together and sit together at lunch. Luckily no fangirls notice. At the end of the day we head home and we each text our friends. Turns out we didn't have to go to school and they were at a party. No wonder it was a free day. We open the door and it's dark.
