“Wakey, Wakey, Stephen.” A voice whispered in Steve’s ear.

“Ten more minutes, Chris.” He said still in a sleepy and groggy state. His deep sleep had wiped his brain clean causing him to forget what was going on.

“Get up you lazy piece of shit.”

Snap. He knew that voice. He remembered as the memories flooded in. The highway, Lexi, Katie, Brianna, the hotel, the maze and now himself.

Steve’s eyes shot open as his hands pushed off of something soft. A bed. He looked in panic at his surroundings. The walls and floor were made with gray cemented brick. The bed he was on, in the middle of the room, was a darker wood than usual on the frame. Red drapes hung from the bed posts that were higher towards the ceiling and the comforter matched as it was red as well. A large rug lye in front of the bed.

No one was in this room. But Steve knew those familiar voices.

He turned around and a door was in front of him. He tried opening it. Locked.

A window covered in red curtains was on either side of the room. He went to the left and tried lifting the up the window. It wouldn’t budge. Steve tried the other window. He panted as he tried lifting with force. But there was no use. It wouldn’t budge.

Steve turned around and walked to the center of the room. His eyes scattered back and forth.

“Sam!” He yelled knowing she was behind all of this. Everything. “Show yourself!”

A giggle sounded from behind him. He spun around seeing Alexis before his eyes. She was in the same black dress he’d seen on her in the maze. Alexis smiled at him.

“Lexi, where is she?” Steve asked bitterly referring to Sam.

Alexis didn’t answer. She only shifted her eyes past Steve’s shoulder. He followed her eyes and Sam was on the other side of him, also smiling.

“Open the door, Sam.”

“And why would I want to do that?” Sam said tilting her head.

“Fresh air never did any harm. Maybe a walk and uhm, flee.” Steve was good at rambling. He thought it was always a good way out of class back at school. But some of his professors didn’t fall for it.

“Well,” Alexis started, causing Steve to move his head in her direction. “We wouldn’t want that. Would we? Why don’t we have some fun first?”

Sam and Alexis started circling around Steve.

“Patience, Alexis.” Sam said.

Steve thought of a conclusion.

“Are you going to turn me?” He asked. He noticed his feet were bare and they were on the edge of the rug. Alexis stopped in front of the rug, blocking the door while Sam kept circling.

“Eh,” Sam squinted and looked up towards the ceiling as if she were thinking. “It’s a bit more complicated than you think.”

“Oh really? Enlighten me then.” Steve challenged.

The girls looked at each other as if thinking the same thing. Sam stopped beside Alexis. They both bent down quickly and whipped the rug from under Steve’s feet so fast that his feet gave way and he landed on his back to the hard cement floor. He felt his head hit hard and placed his hand over the pain as he winced and murmured ‘Fucker!’ over and over. His eyes were closed.

Before he could turn on his side and curl into a ball, a hand pinned him back by his neck. He opened his eyes and moved his hands to the hand of Alexis. His struggle to unhinge her cold hand only made Alexis push him down harder than before.
