Waking up to sunlight was refreshing after a long night. Chris woke up first, facing Charlotte. He was confused because he didn't remember her coming in. Chris sat up and the only thing he could hear was Charlie's heavy breathing.
She was sleeping so soundly that he didn't want to disturb her. But even he didn't want to wait much longer to have a talk with Amanda and Binks.
Chris shook Charlie's shoulder gently. Her eyes fluttered open and she was looking eye to eye with Chris. She shifted but her arm refused her to. Charlotte must had forgotten her arm had been injured from the night before. She fell back on her pillow and looked away from Chris.
Chris sighed, waiting for some response.
"I had a bad dream." Charlie said. "Steve was in it and so was Sam and Alexis. I spoke to Amanda and she said it wasn't supposed to happen or it was impossible. I didn't want to be alone. She left to talk to Binks. She didn't even have the time to tell me if it was real..."
Chris sighed again and rubbed Charlie's shoulder. He flicked his index finger on her nose. Charlie raised her head and smiled. He smiled back.
"C'mon," Chris said. "Lets find Amanda."
They both got out of bed and went downstairs The last step creaked louder than the others. Amanda appeared from a doorway on the opposite side of Chris and Charlotte. Amanda held a pan in her hand that contained something yellow and a spatula in the other hand.
"I hope you like your eggs scrambled." She said.
They smiled at her and went into what was the kitchen. It was the same as the rest of the house; dull walls, dull floors, dull everything along with a fridge, stove and table for 5.
Two placemats were set up. Both seats were on long sides of the table but opposite of each other. Binks was nowhere to be seen.
"Where's Binks?" Chris asked as he took a seat. There was a pause and Amanda looked down quickly.
"He'll be back at any moment." Amanda said sliding eggs on his plate.
A sudden rustle came from what Charlotte thought was below her feet. The basement.
"Actually, that must be them." Amanda said as she quickly moved the pan to Charlie's plate. She was even smiling.
"Them?" Chris said with caution.
Before Amanda could say another word, Amanda put the pan in the sink, and walked out the doorway to her left.
Charlotte didn't sit. She and Chris looked at each other in confusion. Amanda's footsteps stopped and they heard voices and not just Binks. A slightly familiar one at that too.
The footsteps started again and got closer to the kitchen. Amanda half smiled when she walked in. Binks as joyful as he could be.
"Char," Amanda started. "You should probably sit down."
"For wha-"Charlotte couldn't finish. She froze as a third figure walked in. She could feel her blood rushing to her head. Her palms getting sweaty. Her heart thumping but this person's heart didn't beat. At least she didn't think it did.
Stephen Decker walked in with his fists clenched. His head was down ad he looked up once to Chris and then Charlotte. Once was enough after he'd seen their faces. He was embarrassed. He knew his eyes had changed color. He was torn to bits but not a scratch was on him. His hair was scruffy.
