Charlotte didn’t want to fall asleep again after leaving from the village sign. And she didn’t want another bad dream either. She could barely fight the urge to close her eyes, yet she was gazing wide eyed out her window of her shock of the highway before.

Steve was getting impatient to where the road would finally lead to a town. He didn’t get a chance to read how many miles ahead the village was. He sighed feeling anger rush to his head and sleepiness fluttering in his eyes.

Katie didn’t bother with her seatbelt as Steve went at a slow speed. The trees outside her window were just lines to her in the dark. They soon fade as the cars headlights pass.

Charlotte jumped from her position of leaning her head on her forearm to the window, to hear a faint jingle from within the car. The sound came from Charlie’s pocket so she dug out the walkie talkie she had earlier that day.

Steve’s eyes snapped his head up as the jingle sounded again, shaking away his sleeping urge.

Charlie clicked the talk button and screeched out a “Hello?” into its speaker.

“Yeah, It’s Sam.” A voice sounded as a response. “Getting sleepy yet?”

Charlie groaned before pushing the talk button again.
”Ohhh no.I could stay up all night.” She said sarcastically. “Maybe we should just turn around. This road has taken us twenty more minutes from the sign.”

“Wait, No!” Sam exclaimed into her walkie. “I.. I mean it’s getting late and Chris is tired from driving all day. I’m sure Steve is too. It’ll only take long to drive back.”

Charlie looked at Steve and locked eyes for a moment. He motioned for her to give it to him. Charlie didn’t hesitate.

“We keep goin’ until we find a hotel to crash at.” Steve said pushing the talk button.

“Roger that, Stephanie.” The walkie sounded off a faint voice in the background belonging to Brianna. She was obviously still hyped up on energy drinks again.

Charlie snapped her head towards Steve and snatched the walkie out of his grasp before he could yell. Charlie knew that name was only to tease him or get him in a joking mood. But it wasn’t that time to do so. She pressed the talk button.

“Gotcha’, Brianna. Over and out.” She hoped there would be know remark from Brianna again.

Steve was breathing through his nose furiously. He wanted to Yell at Brianna, and at Charlie too. He rolled his eyes and took a long breath in and out thinking Charlie was right to do that.

“Steve?” Charlie asked quietly.

“What?!” He had an angry tone.

“Just, be calmer. It’ll be better in the morning. I mean, until we find this stupid camp place. It’ll be fine.”
