I frowned. Shawn’s being here probably meant he was a tenant of this dorm. So I would have to deal with, essentially, living with him

You’re our dorm manager?” Shawn looked at me incredulously.

“Yep.”

“Oh that’s not gonna last long. We’ll have you out of here in no time.”

“What do you two keep doing to the dorm managers?” I asked, talking to Jack and Shawn.

“You’ll see soon enough.” I narrowed my eyes, standing up and facing Shawn head on.

“Do your worst, prick. I grew up in Chicago,” I got up in his face. I seem to be getting up in people’s faces more often in the dorm I manage than in Chicago, Illinois. That’s pretty sad.

Shawn was a little over 6 foot tall, so to get in his face, our chests were practically touching as I glared up at him. He grabbed the front of my T-shirt and brought my face even closer to his. He grinned as he looked at me, but his eyes glowered at me. It was like he had a bipolar face, his mouth smiling and his eyes glaring. It was somewhat disconcerting, but I stared back, unflinching, nonetheless.

“I will, and I’m gonna have fun doing it.” He released me.

“Oh, ah… Shawn?” Nick, who had been practically cowering in his chair, spoke up.

“Scarlette is going to take over the spare bathroom, so…” He was uncertain as he spoke, but the gesture made me smile at him.

“No way, that’s where I hook up with girls.”

I stared at him, “Considering the layer of dust covering everything, you have a pretty sad sex life.” I straightened my shirt where he had grabbed it. Behind me, Kevin snickered quietly and Jack raised an eyebrow, almost seemingly impressed.

This time he made no attempt at smiling, and his mouth matched his unsmiling eyes. He glared at me with pure hatred and stalked away.

“You’re not bad, girl.” Kevin put his hand on my shoulder. I smirked up at him.

“Oh, I know,” I patted his hand and turned to Nick. “Thanks Nick.”

He seemed to gain some of the confidence he had lost during his discussion with Shawn, “Yeah no prob!”

“Oh hey Scarlette, we were planning on introducing you to the rest of the guys tonight if that’s okay?” Kevin asked me.

“Sure, but I’m really bad with names so be warned.” Learning 50 people’s names would be awful.

“That’s fine. Actually a bunch of the guys were planning on making a party out of it and bringing alcohol and stuff.”

“Okay, but keep it private okay? That’s exactly what I am supposed to be preventing.” I was here 2 days and already breaking rules as a dorm manager.

“Sweet! Okay, well be at this address at 7, and dress nicely. If you uh… have nice clothes.” He gave me a once over as he said this.

I smiled, “Yeah I do, but I just picked up my luggage today that’s why I look like this.”

“Oh okay, well awesome see you then.” Kevin left and went to his room. I watched him, wondering why his personality was so much different when he was with Shawn. I remembered him tearing apart the notebook and trying for my backpack, versus just now when he was inviting me to a party.

“Oooh you liiike him.” Nick said from behind me.

“Nah, I don’t like him,” I shook my head, “just trying to figure him out. Why does Shawn have so much influence over everyone?”
