A Twist in Fate

Life gave me two things, a family and you. Each one I can't do without. Are you okay? Does he still hurt you? Do you want to run away? Should I have stayed with you? All these questions linger in my mind unanswered and it's slowly driving me insane. I could never forget you, even if you did me. I close my eyes and see you and I open them and still see you. I wanna be good for you but it's getting harder and harder each day to return with the same innocent soul. I got a tattoo of a robin today. It'll always remind me of you even in death. I don't know when or how I will return but I do pray sometimes you will be waiting. In the darkest spaces of my heart, I found love and it is meant to be yours.

She heard the soft rap at the door and she looked up as Riley entered with an envelope in hand.

"This just came in for you." she explained as she handed it to her. Robyn stared at the envelope curiously but was afraid to open it and read its contents. It bore the Thorne Inc logo, which made her all the more sceptical.

"You can go now." she said to Riley who hadn't budged from her spot.

"Oh come on, Robyn! You're dying to know. Just open it already" she sassed. Robyn scoffed but didn't deny her claim. Exhaling heavily, she reached for the envelope and tore it open. She unfolded the letter and scanned the words silently. "Well... "

"It's an invitation to a shareholder's meeting tomorrow. They're gonna appoint a new CEO."

"Who do you think they would appoint?"

"I have no idea."

"Hmm! Anyway, your 2 o'clock called to cancel."

She frowned slightly, "Again?"

"Yeah! Do you think she's gone back to her husband? God knows I wouldn't be able to put up with that. To become the punching bag of someone who claims to love me. It must horrible, right?"

She grimaced, "Yeah, it must be. I think I'm gonna call it a day then. You can close up early as well."

"Are you okay? You don't look so good."
