Chapter Five

"So... I'm supposed to be six months pregnant." Lucy says, sighing while staring at the slip of paper in her hands.

"We're not going to get you really pregnant right?" Natsu asks, awkwardly scratching at his head.

"Of course not! That'll never happen, not until at least a couple of years from now!" Lucy says, rolling her eyes.

"What do we do then? Strap pillows to you?"

"That's a good idea, but I'll be all fat and lumpy! Then my clothes won't fit me!" Lucy whines.

"That's kind of the point isn't it, Luce? Six months pregnant means you'll be fat."

"But, but! My clothes!"

"You can wear mine, if that helps?" Natsu says helpfully, grinning.

"Fine, geesh. Go look for some pillows."

A couple of minutes later, two pillows are strapped onto Lucy, and she flops onto her bed, groaning.

"Natsu, I need one of your shirts. My shirt is being stretched across so badly, it might just tear." Lucy says, sighing.

"Huh, okay." Natsu hands her one of his shirts, and Lucy uncaringly pulls off her top, leaving her in her bra and pillows.

"Aren't you going to ask me to look away?" 

"It's nothing you haven't seen before." Lucy mutters, pulling Natsu's shirt over her. 

"Hey Luce, I think Happy is hungry." Natsu says after some silence.

"Did you bring any food for him?" Lucy asks, looking over at the mewing cat.

"Uh no. I wasn't even planning on bringing him along."

"Gods, we need to go get food."

"Let's go then!"

"Do you not see what I'm like now? How do you expect me to go?"

"It is a full time project, so who cares Luce!"

After much whining and pleading, Natsu manages to get Lucy out of the house. Lucy groans, hiding her face in her arms. 

"I need a paper bag, damn." Lucy mutters.

"Whatever for? You don't need to vomit you know." Natsu looks confused.

"It's for my face. No one can see me like this!"

"Luce, stop being so dramatic."

Lucy groans at her attire and look. Natsu dragged her out, and now she's only clad in one of his shirts and a pair of ratty home shorts, plus her hair's in a mess.

"Come on, let's go already, Mrs. Dragneel. We gotta act loving right?" Natsu grins at Lucy and slides his hands into hers.

Lucy flushes slightly, her hand gripping onto his tight. Mrs. Dragneel? That sounds nice, she muses. 

"What if we run into people we know?" Lucy mumbles as they walk.

"Then they'll know we're doing the baby project, Luce."

"Other people are going to think I got knocked up at a young age!"

"Lucy, no one's going to care."

Apparently, Natsu was right. No one spares them a second look. There are occasional glances, people part for them easily and give way, but no one really cares.

The couple walk around casually, their hands entwined. Occasionally, Lucy touches her belly bump, smiling to herself slightly. It's uncomfortable walking around with pillows strapped on, but she manages well, Lucy thinks to herself happily.

"Ji-san! I'm here for cat food!" Natsu says cheerfully, walking into the pet shop with Lucy.

"Oh, Natsu-boy. Food for Happy again, the usual?" the shopkeeper greets, smiling warmly.

"Yes! Give me about ten cans!"

"Sure." the shopkeeper packs ten cans into a bag and hands it to Natsu, who pays him with a huge grin and takes the bag from him.

"Ah, Lucy-chan, why do you have such a lump today?" the shopkeeper asks, staring at her curiously.

"It's the baby project," Lucy sighs, "I'm supposed to be pregnant."

"Ah, I remember that. It was such a good project. I remember it all too clearly, it's how I got together with my wife you know? We were such good friends, and then this project brought us even closer together, and we started dating. Eventually, we got married, and it lasted till now." the shopkeeper says with a fond smile.

"Wow, ji-san! That's so cool!"

"Ah, indeed. Who knows? Maybe a romance will blossom between you two."

Lucy blushes slightly, before answering.

"We're just best friends, and always will be."
