Why Judy Was Crying

Before going to lunch, I put away my things and close my locker. I see Judy behind my door.

"Hey...wanna go to the library?"

"Uh- Sure. Why not? Do you have your lunch with you?"

"Yep, do you?" She responds shyly.

"Yeah."

We walk to the library, and sit behind one of the shelves so nobody can see us, and we eat our lunch.

"Why were you crying a couple of hours ago?" I ask her.

"Oh, just something Nick said to me. He called me ugly and said his old girlfriend, Becky, would've treated him better."

"Oh, God, are you still dating him?"

Judy looks away, "Yeah, I am. It's nothing. It's just a small fight, I'll get over it."

"If you say so," I say while taking a bite into my sandwich, "I don't think I can change your mind, but I recommend you break up with him."

"It'll pass I guess...anyway changing the subject, do you want to know why I picked this spot to eat our lunches?"

"No, I don't" I say as I inspect the book shelves for a clue.

"Well," She starts off, "I normally don't show this to anybody, but I feel like I can trust you."

She pulls down a book with the title of "War & Peace" on it.

"War & Peace?" I ask, confused.

"Hold on" She says, as she removes the cover, exposing the real one; "Furries Furever."

"Furries Furver?" I ask again, but this time even more confused. I had no clue Judy Hopps, the rabbit, was a furry. Liam and I always make fun of furries, but I'd never thought I'd actually meet one.

"Please don't judge me..." She said, "I know it's kinda weird, but I at least wanted to show you it."

"Oh, no, it's okay. What is it about?"

Judy's face lights up, and starts to explain everything.

I fall in love with her eyes and how much she enjoyed talking about being a furry. I start to look at the page she is pointing to, it does look pretty interesting.  She's talking about fur coat, how furries talk, and fursonas.

I look at the clock, two minutes until lunch is over. I nudge her in the shoulder and point to it. Judy closes the book. She puts the book back into the War & Peace cover and puts it back onto the shelf.

"Don't tell anybody, okay? Our secret."

She gets up and walks away.

"Yeah. Our secret"
