Kris
I arrive in Chicago bright eyed and optimistic. I had rented a apartment after spring training and already had my stuff in there. It wasn't if I was going to be up here, just when. I unpack my things I traveled with and head to Wrigley right away. I couldn't wait to get out there. I couldn't play until tomorrow but we had a light practice and I was excited to see the guys again.
I pull up to Wrigley and see everyone from spring training was here. As I make my way into the clubhouse I felt nothing but excitement. I entered the doors to see familiar faces welcoming me into the big times.
"There's the man of the hour" Anthony says shaking my shoulders.
"Uhhh I guess" I laugh. Didn't need everyone giving me a hard time, he was more than enough. He shows me to my locker which is right next to his. There was a bunch of Gatorade and other things from the guys along with a welcome sign.
"Thanks guys" I chuckle digging through the things.
"There's something else we want you to see, but you have to close your eyes" David says.
"Is someone going to pants me" I ask.
"No, this is a good surprise. Just do it" he repeats and I comply. They lead me somewhere and I feel like I'm outside. We walk up a few steps then a few more feet. Eventually we stop walking and David tells me to open my eyes.
"Hey Breezy, miss me" someone says from behind me and I turn to see a girl who looked a lot like McKayla on the mound. As I get closer I realize that is her and sprint over to be in her embrace. Once I get to her I tackle her on the mound and she laughs. We roll over a few times before I land on top of her and she smiles a great smile up at me.
"Oh my god... I can't believe it's really you" I say brushing some hair out of her face. The feeling of her soft hair running through my fingers was enough to drive me completely insane.
"I'm here" she smiles back up to me. She looked even better than I remembered but still smelled like flowers. My arms tingle when she runs her hands up and down them as I hover over her closely. My eyes search her to make sure this was actually real life.
"Wait... what are you doing here" I ask.
"I work with the Cubs now. I'm the sports phycologist" she replies as my eyes nearly bulge out of my head. Not only was she here but she was here for a long long time. I couldn't believe she was actually here. I look down into those brilliant green eyes and find it hard to control all the emotions. I couldn't stop myself and press my lips to hers like I've wanted to for five years now. Her lips move in sync with mine as I deepen the kiss. All the pent up lust I've felt for her and starvation from seeing her comes out in the kiss and it felt unbelievably good. I hear Anthony cheer behind me and break apart once I realized people were still around.
"I'm sorry, but I've waited so long to do that and I couldn't wait another second" I admit. I help her off the ground and Anthony and David join us. David tosses her a ball and reveals a catchers mit.
"I want to see what you got" he says to her.
"Okay, but I haven't pitched in a while" she warns. She stretches out her arm while David heads to the plate.
"So we're you surprised" Anthony asks.
"I haven't felt such a wave of happiness in my life" I admit. This is turning out to be the best week of my life. I watch as she throws a strike straight down the middle and I smile to myself, I forgot how much I loved looking to the mound and seeing her there. The way she taps the ball before throwing it, how her leg gets up so high when she releases it. It's all still the same, and still really freaking good.
"Damn, she's good" Anthony says.
"She's amazing. She's unlike anyone you will ever meet" I add on.
"You really love her, don't you" he asks.
"I have for twelve years. I just can't believe she's back in my life" I admit.
"Well I'm happy for you. Don't fuck it up" he says patting my back. Such encouraging words. She throws about twenty more pitches before calling it quits. She makes her way over to me and I feel like it isn't real. I've imagined her being with me for so long but she's actually here.
"Want to go grab some food" I ask her.
"Heck yeah I'm starving" Anthony says.
"Just McKayla and I" I reiterate as Anthony and David start to pout.
"I would love to" she says and with that we were off.

We spend lunch catching up on just about everything. I tell her stories of my time in the minors and playing in college and she tells me about how she was in a bunch of clubs and organizations in college. In a way things never did change besides time. But she looks a lot older now and she seems really truly happy.
"My parents are coming in town tomorrow" I inform her and her eyes light up.
"No way! I miss them so much" she says.
"They were actually just asking about you. We'll have to meet up before the game" I suggest.
"I would love that" she smiles.
"I've seriously missed you so much. And now that I have you again I hope you know I'm never letting you go" I tell her and she laughs.
"I've missed you too. I was hoping you would still feel the same way about me as you did in high school" she smirks.
"Of course. I haven't even kissed another girl" I admit.
"I haven't even been on a date since those few weeks in summer when we traveled around Vegas. I couldn't stand the thought of looking across a table and not seeing your blue eyes" she says softly. Her voice was like velvet, I could listen to her talk all day.
"So, are we going to try this again" I ask.
"I would like that" she smiles and I feel my heart skip a beat. I don't know what I would do if she said no. We decide to walk around the town and I enjoy the feeling of her hand in mine. It was a familiar feeling but one I could ever get enough of.
"So sports phycologist" I ask.
"Yeah. Being around sports all my life and my motherly nature, it just seemed right. In college I fell in love with the concept of it. The brain is a great tool, especially in baseball, I want to help people achieve their ultimate potential. As soon as you got drafted here I knew I wanted to work here, so I did a bunch of internships and extra credit things and now here I am" she shrugs.
"Now that you're here I know I can do this" I admit.
"Looks like I'm already doing my job then" she giggles. Eventually it gets late and she goes back to her apartment. I go to my place and crash into my bed convinced I was the happiest man alive.
