Kris
I actually get to go to the doctors appointment with McKayla and it went really well. Both her and the baby are healthy and doing good. She was about a month along and on track for a good pregnancy, we would be parents sometime around June or July. After asking about a hundred questions we leave the doctors office to find a costume for the Halloween party tonight. A little last minute but I mean it was just for tonight, no rush right? It was just a little get together of some of the athletes around here where we can dress up and drink. Neither Kayla or I drink but we do love having a good time.
We spend the day looking for Halloween costumes but couldn't seem to find the right one. We weren't being picky, but we didn't want to be so predictable. We walk around a little more until I lose her somewhere in the store.
"McKayla" I call out, she was nowhere to be seen. I look around but can't seem to find her anywhere.
"Ahhhh" someone yells and I jump about 20 feet in the air while screaming on the top of my lungs. When I land I see that it was just McKayla in a scary clown mask. She takes it off only to wipe away the tears from laughing so hard.
"You suck! I nearly pissed myself" I chuckle and she laughs harder.
"I'm sorry, but I had to" she insists. It's no secret I hate scary movies, I just hate being scared in general. She's lucky I love her... so much. We continue to look but I start to get discouraged.
"What about this" she says pointing to a little red riding hood and big bad wolf outfit, it was actually kinda cute.
"I'm down" I say and she picks them up and purchases it before we go home to change. She helps me get into my outfit because it was pretty complicated and eventually she disappears to get ready. Soon enough it was time to go and I go to get her so we could leave. I find her in the bedroom bathroom staring in the mirror completely ready to go. She had on a white shirt with the puffy shoulders and a red corset laced up. The skirt was red and had black tulle under it to make it flow out and it stoped right above her knees. She had on black boots that stopped just below the knees making her legs look a mile long. Her long blonde hair was curled and secured under a red silk cape.
"You look amazing" I say as she stares at her reflection. I stand behind her as she continues to stare at the herself.
"We're ready for a kid, right" she asks. I know she's been thinking about it a lot and it was honestly scaring me.
"Nothing can prepare us for a kid, I mean we're still kids ourselves. You're a good person and that's the start of being a good mother. But I know that you are going to be amazing mother at that, and I'm going to try my best to be the best father ever. It's not going to be easy, we're trying to raise another human being for petes sake. But I know that when times are hard we'll know what to do. We always do" I assure her. She looks up at me with bright red lips pulled into a smile.
"What would I do without you" she asks.
"Well you wouldn't be dressed like this" I laugh.
"Yeah... we should probably get going shouldn't we" she asks and I nod. We drive over to the UC that had the basketball court down and a bunch of athletes and their significant others there. We make our way down to the floor and grab a bottle of water.
"There's so many cool people here" she says looking around. We haven't been in Chicago for a long time but this is a sports city, you know of people. I sit and talk to McKayla until I feel someone tap on my shoulder. I turn around to see no one other than my good friend Jonathan Toews.
"Hey man, how are you" I ask.
"Pretty good, and yourself" he wonders.
"Considering we got kicked out of the playoffs... I'm actually really good" I admit.
"That's good to hear. I want you guys to meet my girlfriend. Lindsey, this is Kris and McKayla" he says and we all shake hands.
"I'm obsessed with your guys' costumes, that's so cute" she says.
"Thanks. I love your your outfit too, did you make it" McKayla asks.
"Yeah, took a week to make this" Lindsey laughs.
"I would never be able to make something like that. You got a real talent" McKayla smiles.
"Thanks... you know I really like you" Lindsey smirks and I look over to Jonathan.
"I have a feeling we'll be seeing a lot more of each other" he comments and I chuckle along with him.
"Yeah probably" I admit. I walk around and meet some cool people. Alshon Jeffery and Derrick Rose were here, it's nice to meet some real Chicago heros.
"Are we going to dance or what" McKayla asks grabbing my hand.
"I haven't danced since prom" I admit nervously.
"I know you can do it. I got you" she insists. I've seen her dance many times before. I mean if there is anything with a beat, she was dancing. I look around to see if anyone was looking until I feel a soft hand on my cheek. I'm pulled close to McKaylas face as she pulls me down.
"Just look at me, okay" she advises. I look into those sea green eyes and it felt like no one else was there. It was just her and I and the music. I copy her motions as I get lost in the moment. Never would I have imagined that moving up to Chicago would be the answer to all my questions. Yet here I am, covered in fur dancing with my pregnant girlfriend dressed as little red riding hood and somehow this is my happiness. I place a kiss on her lips as she pulls me close. Moments like this make all the other shit worth it, I would go through so much just for moments like this.
