Olivia could bear it no more. Harry was not talking to her at all. He just glanced at her with a hurtful expression once or twice a day. She wondered why he was feeling hurt. After all, it was her heart that had been shattered, not his.
It had been a week since he spoke to her, and she slowly withdrew from all of her friends. The once shy, yet friendly person became a quiet and sad looking girl in such a short span of time that even Gabrielle noticed.
"You know you can tell me anything, right? If Harry trusts you, then so do I." she said sweetly, but Olivia just brushed her away, saying that it was none of her concern. But it did involve her, for she was the cause of Olivia's misery.
The silence between her and her best friend was suffocating, and she felt it to be torturous and agonising. She decided to clear things with him, but she never had the opportunity, for wherever he was, Elle was there too.
At last, after three weeks of waiting, she managed to catch him alone, without his girlfriend hanging off his arm. There was an awkward and strained silence between them, something that had never existed before. That should have been the first sign.
"Why are you avoiding me?" she asked him.
He looked down, and did not meet her eye. That was the second sign. "Why were you not talking to me?"
She snapped. "That's bullshit and you know it. Ever since your precious girlfriend entered your life, you seem to have no time for me, your 'best friend' of so many years. Does our friendship mean so less to you?"
He gulped. "It's not that. I just want to spend more time with Elle, that's all."
"There are twenty four hours in a day. Can't you spend at least half an hour with me?"
"This is getting irritating. Stop bothering me like this."
She was truly taken aback. Her request was nothing too great, and if he could not do that much, then he had no value for her. the truth hit her hard, but she forced herself to deny it. Salvaging for a ray of hope, she asked him in a choked voice,
"What about your promises? Are you going to blatantly disregard them?"
He said nothing, but the lack of words carried its message to her. Stifling a sob, she ran away.
