Music pounded through the brightly coloured room, the smell of alcohol engulfing the small area. It wasn't often I visited places like this, so when I did I was somewhat intimidated. Bodies glowing with sweat could be seen on the dance floor, each one more intoxicated than the last. My face scrunched up in the slightest as we shoved passed damp bodies, Jai holding onto my hand tightly as we did so.
Eventually we arrived at a small private booth which was roped off from the rest of the club. So far I'd already been asked for pictures with numerous people, although I just wanted a break I couldn't find it in me to decline so I did what they asked. It still shocked me that people on the street recognised me. Everyone slipped into the seat which circled around the table and I found myself between Luke and Jai, causing me to feel somewhat nervous.
Luke placed some money in the middle of the table, his large hand illuminated by the pulsing club lights, his lip ring suddenly became more noticeable. I watched as he took it between his lips as Beau called over someone to get us shots. Before I realised Luke had turned his face to look at me, his eyes scanning my face quickly before I turned away, suddenly aware of how awkward I looked.
I sighed quietly knowing this night would be anything but relaxing or fun. James and Daniel joined us not long after the first round of shots was placed at our table. We hugged awkwardly over the table, saying our hellos before they slipped into the booth along with us. It was safe to say there was a fair distance between me and Luke, I was almost sat on Jai's lap.
"He doesn't bite y'know," Jai murmured into my ear, laughing as he looked at the distance between the two of us. "I'm not sure whether I believe you." I laughed quietly, attempting to lighten up. I couldn't let Luke ruin my night just because he wanted to be rude and obnoxious. I smiled at Jai before taking a shot, handing one to him as I did so. We both took them and I heard him chuckle again when I felt my eyes squeeze shut, the burning liquor running down my throat.
Nights out weren't quite as fun now that I had a boyfriend. Not that I was bothered that I had one - I just felt I had a new sense of responsibility. I somehow knew that the boys wouldn't let me be sensible though, it was just how they were.
Me and my boyfriend, Jake, shared a house and he was currently still there whilst I visited my mum. He was in a small indie band that played at pubs and small gigs. He was your typical indie guy, was often at tattoo parlours, had messy hair and smoked. I had fallen in love with him at 17 and we'd been together since. Despite our young age I really felt like I was in love.
I was snapped out of my daydream when Beau suggested, to no surprise, we should all take another shot. We all did so and after every shot I felt myself becoming more relaxed, more at peace. I laughed as Jai told me about the Janoskians videos, sharing all of their memories with me. However, when we stopped speaking I had realised Luke had somewhat closed the space between us.
Before I could act upon it I felt Jai's hand slip into mine as he got up from his seat. "Lets dance." He smiled, his eyes gleaming in the fluorescent lighting. Not long after promising to dance, and 5 more drinks, we were all on the dance floor. Me and Jai grinned like children as our bodies moved to the music, every so often laughing like idiots.
At this point I knew I was intoxicated, words coming out as slight slurs and my movements were often accompanied with a sway. Before I knew it the boys were out of eyesight, causing me to frown ever so slightly. Surely they'd be back soon.
Two hands gripped my hips and assuming it was one of the boys I grinned, but when I spun around I was greeted by a stranger who was pushing his sweaty body against my own, causing me to shudder slightly. "Oh, I have a boyfriend." I muttered, attempting to slip out of his grip but by the looks of things he wasn't allowing that to happen. I gasped when I felt him pull my body closer to his, the breath in the back of my throat hitched as I continued to struggle in his grip.
"I suggest you let go of my girlfriend." I heard someone say loudly over the pulsing music throughout the club. I felt a warm hand on my wrist as he gently pulled me away, the guy stumbling back in slight shock. "You've never been able to handle your drink." I heard the Australian accent mutter, pulling me along with him as he shoved passed the dancing bodies. When I looked up I realised it was Luke.
I couldn't thank him before I was pulled into a tight embrace. "Kylie where did you go? We were looking for you." I heard Jai mutter, his head shaking slightly as he rested it in the crook of my neck. I felt myself stumble but I clung onto his torso, sighing softly as I rested my head on his chest. "Sorry." I mumbled although it was likely it was inaudible due to the music that only seemed to get louder.
"I think it's time we go home." I heard a drunken Daniel laugh who was holding onto Beau for support. I turned around, my eyes scanning the place for Luke but he was no where to be seen. What made him want to help me?
