I handed Luke the carefully folded shirt, awkwardly avoiding eye contact as I did so. His mouth opened to say something but he was cut short by a whiny voice. "Lukey!" It squeaked, allowing me to put the pieces together to realise it was his girlfriend. She clung to him as if she hadn't seen him in years, her perfect blonde hair in perfect curls, her perfect blue eyes matching her perfect outfit. I couldn't help but despise her.
I rolled my eyes as I watched Luke look down at her with a grin on his lips. Why did he like her so much yet seemed to hate my guts? Luke seemed to acknowledge my awkwardness which only caused him to smirk. "You look good in my shirt," he murmured to me before leading his girlfriend to his bedroom, slamming the door shut shortly behind them.
I knew he only said that to bother me and I didn't want it to, but it really affected me. My cheeks turned a rose red as I looked down at the floor in embarrassment. "Whatever," I muttered before going back to my bed and texting my boyfriend. After around 10 minutes the first guests arrived, making me feel like I had to drag myself out of bed. I was planning on hanging around Jai tonight as other than the boys, I knew no one.
I headed downstairs, my phone firmly placed in one hand. I spotted Beau who was grinning widely, handing everyone drinks as they walked in. So far I could already count at least 15 people. "Hey gorgeous," Jai smiled, leaning down to kiss me on the cheek. I couldn't help but smile back. "Hey handsome." He handed me a drink and I shook my head. "This isn't going to be a small party, is it?" I asked, raising an eyebrow as I took a sip of my drink.
"Possibly not," he chuckled, taking my hand as he lead me to the soon crowded livingroom. We sat down on the sofa, an obnoxious couple all over each other next to us. "I hate parties." I muttered, sighing as I looked around at everyone. "I miss my boyfriend." I mumbled sadly, causing Jai to look down at the floor and bite his lip, nodding. "I'm sure he misses you too.." he muttered, almost as if he didn't want me to hear it. I frowned but chose to ignore it.
That's when I noticed Luke and his girlfriend walk through, his hand on her hip as they smiled happily. I rolled my eyes, resting my head on Jai's shoulder after taking another sip of my drink. I was going to need a lot of alcohol to get through tonight. Couples were all over each other, as if everyone was just trying to show off that they were with their loved ones.
Whereas me and Jai sat lonely on a sofa, awkwardly holding each other as we both drank away our sadness. I felt the alcohol run through my system as I sighed quietly, leaning on Jai for some support. "I thought parties were supposed to be fun?" I laughed and Jai just nodded. Something was clearly on his mind but I didn't bother asking, it was selfish but I just wasn't in the mood.
I noticed Luke stood alone in the kitchen, texting away, a drink in his hand. I watched as his body swayed occasionally, leaning against the marble counter for support. "I'll be right back," I mumbled in a slight slur, pushing myself up from the couch. Before I could think about what I was doing I made my way over to Luke.
"Where's miss perfect?" I questioned, looking at him before looking back down at my drink. "Excuse me?" He snapped, looking up from his phone to make eye contact with me. I refused to meet his gaze. "Your girlfriend, the one who clung onto you all night long." I mumbled. I knew I sounded jealous but I was. Not because I wanted to date him, simply just because I missed my best friend.
"She's gone." He shrugged, looking back down at his phone. "She had to go meet friends." All I could say was 'oh' as I looked down at my drink once again. He seemed somewhat lost without her and I didn't understand. Why couldn't I have that impact on him?
