Chapter 8 - A trip down memory lane pt.1

The next week was basically the same. Going out, exploring the area and then eating in a fancy restaurant, dressing up and imitating the other guests.

It’s fair to say that we’ve gotten to know each other pretty well the last few days. But this rainy tuesday was going to be different, I felt it as I woke up.

Stretching, I looked out the big panorama window, only to be met with a dark blue sky, rain pouring down over the city. Looking over to my right, I come face to face with a very sleepy Kyle, hair looking like birds nest.

”Morning.” His raspy voice broke the silence, molding in with the pitter patter of rain hitting the windows.

”Morning. Would you like some coffee?” I offer, shuffling among the big white blankets, not really wanting to get up.

”Why don’t we spend a day in bed, watching television and talking? Since you made breakfast the last week I think it’s my turn now. While I make breakfast, why don’t you choose a movie or serie to watch?” He offers kindly, making me smile.

”That would be so kind of you! Thank you Kylie!” I giggle as he frowns at the girly nickname I’ve given him.

”My pleasure Lexie.” Now it’s his turn to smirk as I scrunch up my nose at the horrible nickname.

As I hear him rustling around in the kitchen bury myself in the blankets, turning on the big flat screen tv, pushing the buttons until I find Netflix. I go through the newest movies until I find ’The Butler’ and choose it, holding it on pause until Kyle walks into the room with a big tray filled with pancakes, coffee and orange juice. I give him a thankful smile and soon we bury ourselves in the blankets, munching on pancakes.

I turn off the movie and then look over at Kyle.

”That movie was amazing.” I gush and Kyle chuckles.

”Yeah. Want to watch another movie or just talk?” He asks kindly.

”We can just talk.” I put the tray on the floor and turn toward Kyle.

Kyle’s POV

As Alexis looks at me expectantly I know I have to start. As dad warned me, she’s got an armor proof shield that almost nobody gets past. Time to take a trip down memory lane.

”When I was born, my mom and dad put me up for adoption because they didn’t have any money to take care of me. But I was a struggling kid, always causing trouble which led to me not getting adopted. When I was twelve, the Boss and a woman walked in to the orphanage and found me.

I still remember that day. I sat in the corner of the big playroom, surrounded by small kids. I was drawing something, a picture of me and two faceless adults, my parents. Since I didn’t have many friends I spent my free time drawing, and got pretty good. I then heard hushed voices and felt someone watching me. I continued to draw until a woman in her forties crouched down next to me.

”Hi Kyle. What are you drawing?” She had a pretty smile and nice eyes, speaking in a soft tone that made me smile shyly at her.

"I’m drawing me and my parents.” Something about this woman made me trust her instantly.

”It’s a very nice drawing. My name is Mrs Thompson. Me and my friend over there want to adopt you and get you a proper home. Would you like that?” I nodded happily, and as I stood up to collect my belongings, she grabbed my hand, asking me to lead the way to my room.

Once I moved to the big mansion that The Boss lives in, my life changed completely. The first four years there I got the happy childhood I’d always dreamt about. In the beginning, I was scared of him, but as time went by, we became closer. He was, and still is, like a father to me. Only when we meet others in the SUD he acts like I’m just another agent. His wife, Mrs Thompson, is the best mother you can imagine. She’s so kind. I can’t imagine life without her. She’s like the mother I never got to have up to the age of twelve. She sees me as her son and I see her as my mom.   Once I turned sixteen, dad and mom sat me down, telling me all about the SUD. Dad said that I absolutely didn’t have to join if I didn’t want to, but offered me the agent education if I was interested. Mom was absolutely against me joining the dangerous organisation, but when I said I wanted to start training to see what it was like, she accepted it like the understanding woman she is. I took the education and by the time I turned eighteen, I was a fully educated and trained agent. Taking some smaller spionage jobs for two years, I quickly got bored. Wanting to try something different, I signed up for two years of military service. Mom was devastated and told me that I better not die there. Dad told me she cried from the moment I left which made me feel awful. I can still see her devastated face infront of me.

In the army it was tough, and although I had no problems there, I found myself longing to go home and work for the SUD again. Determined to complete my two years of service I fought on and the two years went by smoothly without any mishaps. Exactly thirteen days before my two years were done, my group went to check on a small village. Everything seemed fine, but an old woman was frantically motioning towards one of the houses. We decided to check it for safeties sake, leaving some of our men out on the street so that no one would get harmed. Inside, we found what the woman had warned us for. A huge bomb, the seconds ticking by quickly, was placed in the middle of the house. We turned around and ran out, yelling for people to move away from the house that would soon be in the air. Just as I was by the door to the house, the bomb exploded. The last thing I remember is being thrown up into the air by the force of the explosion. I suffered from a severe concussion and broken bones. Though I was lucky, compared to the ones that had been closer to the bomb. They lost limbs and a couple of us even died. I can never forget that, and I still feel guilty today about not being able to save them. It took a year for me to fully recover, and up to this day I have nightmares about the happenings there. My best mate from the group suffer from post traumatic stress even today. He can’t work and is extremely sensitive to noises.

Two years ago I once again joined the SUD, on the condition that I would take field jobs, and not just small ones. Then, I got to hear about the accident that forced the SUD to go underground and my father offered me this mission. The Moore couple is more dangerous than you think, so he warned me. Wanting a challenge, I took this case, and the rest you know.” I smiled at her shocked face and after opening and closing her mouth repeatedly she finally stuttered out something coherent.

”Bloody mother of Cinderella.”

A/N: So guys, first of all I want to apologize for not updating. I've been sick and tired so I just didn't update.

Second, I have no idea what its like to be in the army or witness an explosions, so the chapter is purely based on my thoughts and ideas and have got nothing to do with the actual military/ army life or the life after. So this is only based on my imagination, just to clarify that.

Hope you liked it! More stories are being told in the next chapter! ;)
