"So you were able to escape from the Crown City?" Iris questioned with furrowed eyebrows, grimacing a little at the thought. She would not have survived if not for the assigned Crownsguard people whom her brother, Gladiolus, commanded and sent out as an escort to guard her. It was literal hell for anyone within radius and boundaries of the foul aura that the Niflheim elite forces reeked of.
"Yeah, barely. I want to return, but the risk of me being thrown into imprisonment proves to be too high in fact." f-n explained, casting his gaze towards the flickering flames and sparks of the campfire.
Tents with the brandish logo mark of Coleman was visible on the bluish material, the poles propping the outer layering upward for the tight roominess of sleeping. Thankfully, the Regalia carried an extra tent for the road, making it more comfortable for all of you. Except the factor that f-n was paired with Iris in the extra tent. Noctis, Ignis, Prompto, and Gladiolus had their own system of laying down on the sleeping bags inside the tent. Excluding f-n from it leaving him to sleep with a girl he was recently introduced to him.
"It was heartbreaking seeing our home Gladio, burning into dust. Dad couldn't find his way either to accompany us outside Insomnia. To be frank, I don't where on Eos he'd seek refuge to." Iris said with a weakened tone, unusual for her genial nature.
"And I thought it was all a lie till Ignis found multiple newspapers with the headline, Insomnia Falls, plastered on the front cover. T-To think..." Prompto trailed into silence, clutching the sides of his head, his fingertips grazing his platinum locks. His home, their home, was pummeled and destroyed by the Niflheim nation.
f-n muttered, "I overheard essential information about the Imperials next raiding mission."
"How?" Noctis inquired, tilting his head back towards his brother in record time.
"Back when I left the Crown City, a former glaive by the name of Libertus sought out to me a walkie-talkie. All the conversations by the Nifs could be heard throughout the speaker. They're heading to Altissia to intrude on the covenant set out by Princess Lunafreya, your betroth." f-n answered, noticing how Noctis' hands balled into fists representing the blooming rage burning through his blood. The last thing he wanted was anybody else being injured by the malicious cynical minds of Niflheim, but the high possibility that his long lost friend could be threatened by their actions? No way in hell would Noctis allow that to happen.
"Fortunately, our next task is to set out to Cape Caem. Cid and Cindy await us their at the lighthouse. We have recovered a mythril shard that would suit the essential repairs the boat is in need of." Ignis spoke, averting his gaze from the dinner he was preparing for the others toasting atop of the metal bars of the mini grill station.
"Then, we set off to Altissia." Gladiolus continued on.
"Then it's settled." Prompto compensated, leaning back into his camp chair.
f-n announced willfully, "I'm coming along. A close friend of mine by the name of Nyx aided the maimed soldiers from Niflheim clutches. It seems crystal clear that he may have not survived."
"Course you can. I'm pretty sure Noct can't deny his own brother's request." Iris leaped up in her seat, speaking with confidence.
"You're right on that account Iris. Especially if it involves avenging others' deaths." Noctis agreed, nodding his head in affirmation.
"Then count me in then." f-n said, smiling at the four males and female surrounding him.
"I wish you good luck on your future quests." Iris said with a saddened expression. All of them were to part ways sooner or later, the short haired brunette wishing it was more later. Even in the short time span of hanging around Noctis and his retainers and meeting his brother, it was too hard to let go.
After feasting on the dinner cooked by Ignis, f-n immediately dove underneath the thin crack of the unzipped tent. He slid between the blankets, rolling around to cocoon himself in a thick encasing of warmth and fabric. He inherited similar sleeping habits to Noctis. Iris smiled a little at the sight as she crawled on all fours into the secluded tent. The air accumulated a heavy thickness of silence and a tiny tint of awkwardness.
f-n cleared his throat to gain her attention, "I can switch places with your brother if you want." he suggested, supporting his head with an arm.
She shook her head signaling a no. "Gladio wouldn't appreciate it if I complained about you. I am just tagging along for the crazy joy ride." f-n chuckled at her comment.
"Well, just tell me straight out if I'm a bother. I'm used to sleeping out in the wilderness, since I technically did live in the suburbs of the city." f-n assured the brunette. Iris nodded in acknowledgement.
"Kay. I'll keep that in mind." She said, folding her hands together and laying them beneath her head like pillow. Silence grew once more, but not the awkward stiff type. A more calming peaceful kind as if they were comfortable in each other's presence, which they were.
Next Morning
"Iris! f-n! Rise and shine!" Prompto sang, pushing away the flimsy opening of the tent. His eyes widened in fear seeing neither of them present sleeping on the abandoned and empty sleeping bags. 'Damn, what am I supposed to tell Gladio and Noct?' He thought, still recovering from the bewilderment seconds ago.
"Um, guys?" Prompto called out to them, contemplating whether or not he'd lie to save f-n and Iris from a lecture of their lifetime from their protective siblings or tell them the truth. His brains contorted hearing their footsteps draw nearer. What to do? Lie and have the uncomfortable sensation of the two being in danger? Or, tell the truth and let them face the consequences and possibly wrath of their own family?
