Nick kept his eyes focused on the road ahead of him. His face was stony with suppressed emotion, his mind deep in concentration. He told himself over and over that everything would work out and that the ZPD would find his partner alive. Officers were scouting the area of Tundra Town for any evidence, any clues that would lead them to where Judy Hopps was being help captive by Markus Swiftfoot. Some officers were questioning mammals and some had even been sent up to Judy's apartment, now a crime scene, to search for any overlooked evidence. Nick scanned the streets for any signs of what/who he was looking for. He had been assigned to search warehouses in Tundra Town due to Judy's statement during the last phone call. He wasn't the only one assigned to this job, as this was certainly not a one-mammal job. Nick missed having his partner beside him as they solved cases together but tonight, it was up to him to solve this one without Judy but instead for her. Nick didnt have long he knew, but he clung onto the last shard of hope he had left, that he would get his bunny partner back safe and sound.
The fox drove slowly, thoroughly searching the dark streets, his forest green eyes desperate, flicking back and forth. He wanted to find any sign of his partner. Any sign of a shady looking warehouse. Anything that could lead him to his best friend, to the mammal he knew he was in love with. Would he ever get the chance to confess his love to her? He shook the thought away. He had one priority and that was to find Judy, not worry about if he'd find her alive.
The loud honking of a car horn made Nick jump in his seat. He shook his head and huffed with agitation. With eyebrows furrowed and lines creased on his forehead, he gripped the steering wheel tightly. The fox felt his heart pumping in his chest. Where are you Hopps? He thought worriedly, becoming more impatient abs distressed with each passing moment. He knew the clock was ticking. He didnt have time. Nick knew he needed to find his partner fast. The vulpine soon became aware of the fact he was subconsciously grinding his teeth. He knew if he kept this up he'd give himself a tension headache abs that was the last thing he needed. He let his muscles relax and breathed a sigh. Keep it together Nick. The fox attempted to think of what Judy would say to him in these moments if she were here and he smiled as he heard her voice in his head as clear as a bell. Nick knew exactly what she would say. He could picture her speaking words of encouragement and punching him softly in the arm while, all the time looking up at him with her warm and glorious purple gaze. Nick knew she would tell him first; that he was a dumb fox and secondly; that if he set his mind to it, he could achieve anything. He imagined her calling him names playfully and remembered all the times she'd complimented him on his 'detective work'. This gave the fox the encouragement and motivation he needed. Thinking of her gave him strength. He narrowed his eyes determinedly and kept on scanning the streets, thinking about all the possibilities of the case but this time he was more sure of himself.
As Nick drove around, worry evident in his creased eyebrows, pursed lips and tight grip on the steering wheel. Night was beginning to fall when suddenly the fox had a thought. Slowly he reached for his radio as the cogs worked in his brain. He had an idea but it was a long shot. "Bogo?" He radioed the chief. A crackle answer came through the receiver, "Wilde." Nick drew in a soft breath. "Do you still have the evidence that I brought in? The needle specifically? I think it may have had a brand name in the side if I remember rightly" Nick asked, tapping a claw impatiently on the steering wheel. Bogo snorted. "Copy. I don't see the importance thought. The forensics found nothing." Nick sighed, "I know sir, -just- please?" There was a moment of silence. "Hold on." The receiver went quiet for a while. Eventually Nick got what he was looking for. "Wilde." "Chief." "There's nothing-" Nick sighed. He knew it had been a long shot. Then his ears pricked in interest. Hope filled through him as Bogo continued. "However you were right about the brand name. It says 'Big Bucks' and it just looks like a pharmacy brand," Bogo explained. "Oh" Nick breathed, "Well could you radio Clawhauser and get him to run the name through the computer system?" he asked. Bogo grunted in disapproval. "I feel like this is a waist of time but if you insist" he rumbled. "Bogo to dispatch." Nick waited as Bogo spoke to Clawhauser. Then after a while Bogo spoke to him again. "Get that Wilde? Its an old pharmacy. Went bankrupt after an infestation of the products. There's one Big Bucks factory type building left in Zootopia. Its disused. The company died years ago and the building hasn't been touched by another company since." Nick opened his eyes wide. "If it hasn't been used for that long than where'd the syringe come from?" He murmured in question. He heard Bogo groan, "You dont know that it was Swiftfoot's but its worth a shot. Its the only lead we've got." Nick nodded to himself. "What's the coordinates of the building sir?" This could be my last chance, Nick thought in worry. What if Im wrong?
