The Third Divide

Chapter Two

Hey again guy's, so here's the second chapter, please let me know what you think so far :)

I woke and for a petrifying I didn't know where i was but after a second or to i remembered the last few moments before i past out and, still not knowing exactly where i was, assumed this dank, gray, featureless room must have been one of the prison cells in the Barracks.

So i sat on the slab of concrete i that must have been my bed for what felt like hours, but with no windows time was hard to judge. Until finally the wall seemed to split in two and a door way appeared. Standing in the door way was Private Tim Jefferson, the newest addition to the small 8 man group at Bunstone Barracks.

"Dean Longstead?" Said the Private, I nodded. "Your Family's here to see you."

And so with that the Private lead me out of the cell and through the Barracks until we reached the all to familiar waiting room near the front or the Barracks. Through the windows I could now see it was twilight outside but that held little interest in my mind for as soon as i entered the room i saw the three figures of my family sitting in the waiting room seats.

the first person i saw, mainly because he's so large he dominates the room and has to use two of the small waiting room chairs. Jackson Longstead, dressed in his slightly to tight clothes, was one of the biggest men i'd ever seen, Blackburn hardly comes close. next was my mother, Kathrine Longstead, or Kate, a small and delicate looking woman next to my father but in actual fact was as strong and as capable as almost anyone else in town. though small next to my father, Kate was at least and extra head taller than me. And next was My little sister Penelope Longstead, or Penny, She was only Five and yet she was already 1/4 of my height, still a chair was far to large for her and she sat on Kate's lap.

"Deanie!" Exclaimed Penny as i entered the room and was then on her feet running and hugged my leg so hard i was afraid it would drop off.

"Hey Penny." I replied, patting her head until she finished crushing the bone in my leg, then picking her up i carried her back over to Jack and Kate.

"Dean." Kate said than stood up to receive Penny and to hug me too.

"Dad." I said though i knew he wasn't happy and the only thing keeping him from ripping my head off was the 3 UR soldiers in the room.

As if on queue with my thoughts, Sergeant Blackburn suddenly joined the group.

"Jackson, Kate." Balckburn began."As you've been informed, your son was caught this morning stealing meat from this very barracks for the third time this month. Now we've given him plenty of warnings and, I'm sorry Jackson, but this time we have to charge him with thievery, the fine will be 500 Republics."

"What?!?!" Exclaimed Jackson, standing up."You know we cant pay that Kent!" Kent must've been Blackburn's first name though i'd never heard it before and i wouldn't know how dad would know it.

"I'm sorry Jack but the but that's the minimum amount you can pay. Maybe Your kid'll think twice next time."

But then Dad took Blackburn's arm and walked him over to the other end of the room, out of earshot, and started whispering to him. Before i could think on it any further pain shot from head. I turned to see Kate ready to slap me again.

"Ouch Mum!" I said, holding the back of my head.

"Your bloody lucky I didn't use a chair!" she replied in anger

"I know! I know, I screwed up, big time, but i was trying to help!" 

"That's what you said the last two times! We don't you "help" by maybe getting a job, or earning some money yourself for once!"

I had no retort for this and, defeated, slumped down in a chair.

"I'm sorry." I said finally.

We sat there in silence for 15 minutes until finally Dad walked over.

"Alright, get up, we're leaving." He said rather finally.

"I'm free to go?" I replied rather questionably

"Yep, now lets get out of here before Blackburn changes his mind."
