Parker's P.O.V
The blind boy perked up and slowly began to speak.
"I don't know if I can trust you....I want to, but I don't know if I can. The last Americans that were here killed my dad. I was told that next time I see one to run away, but I can't really do that when I'm blind and in charge of my sister's care, can I?"
A pang of sadness hit me, as well as a whole lot of sympathy and a whole lot of curiosity.
"You're sitting tucked behind a movie theatre." I replied cautiously. "Nobody can see us. Don't you think if we wanted to hurt you and your sist-"
"Not her," he interrupted. "You wouldn't dare."
"No, no. We aren't going to hurt her. I'm just saying if we were intending to do so, don't you think we'd do it now?"
"You wouldn't." He snapped back.
I was silent.
This boy was strange. He talked a lot and he seemed fairly trusting to tell us as much as he had. But at the same time, he seemed lost and scared and full of uncertainty.
"I promise we won't do anything to you if you let us go somewhere safe so we can talk."
"How do I know you won't kill me?"
I wanted to say How would killing you be beneficial to us? But I didn't want him to take it wrong.
"Right here is fine." He added. "Like you said, I'm tucked away behind a movie theatre. Nobody can hear us...and even if they could, they all know the story."
"Alright," Amber replied, sitting down on the asphalt next to him. "We're listening."
Piper's sister had finally stopped crying and fallen asleep - hungry. But not as hungry as she would be if we left them here when our conversation was over.
I looked at the innocent, little bundle before taking a seat next to Amber.
I sort of wondered where Grayson and Joy had gone since we left them in the street, but that was aside the point.
Piper leaned back against the wall and sighed. "Alright. So, many years ago, a young man came here with his father. Both Americans. He was eighteen years old and his father was an inventor. They came by machine and they wanted to explore this place, apparently. Apparently, this is a parallel universe similar to earth. I've never been to earth myself but, I suppose the resources here are more magical. Like the fountain of youth, the mermaids, the clouds that take orders and the various potions that can be found deep in some of the rain forests. I guess people here can be more vulnerable than in your world. The man and his son saw the beauty of our beautiful little world and at the time, my dad was the ruler of it. Some of our most beautiful attractions rest in the richness of the soil and intricacy of some of the hidden valleys. But, he wasn't after any of that. He looked at all of the people as potential slaves. He wanted power. He wanted to be a dictator. He heard about the diamond mines and got big ideas about becoming rich. And so, after exploring for several months, the inventor left. We didn't see much of him after that. Nobody likes him anyway. He was smug and rude and his son was a spoiled brat who was really strange. We thought we'd never see them again as the months went on. We didnt see anything of him. But one day, they came back, with many, many others. We haven't had to go to war in centuries so our defense was very weak. They killed many innocent people and then they raided the General's quarters...which is like your American President's house..." I saw Amber smile just slightly but, the serious topic made it vanish immediately. Especially with the next sentence. "He killed my dad when I was thirteen years old because my he was the ruler of this place and then took over. After that, my mother took us and hid. W-we didn't even have time to bury him properly. We hid for until last year. It was really hard. Especially with my mom being pregenant. We stayed until Destiny was born. But her crying made it harder for us to hide and eventually someone gave us away. They found us. They set our house on fire and I barely got out with Destiny. My...mom died in the fire. Nobody recognized me though. We wandered after that. I didn't know where to go. I wasn't familiar with anything. I just remember holding my sister who was only a month old at the time....and we nearly froze to death. It was wintertime. I finally just collapsed and wrapped my coat around her.
An hour later, a woman walked by. I don't know who she was, but she had a sweet voice...like you, Amber."
Amber blushed.
"She took us in to her orphanage and we stayed there for the past year. But, you know....Government has changed. Especially when the professor died. His son took over and now we're under his ruling. The guards that walk our streets fired miss Greta...the lady who ran the orphanage. And then they enforced someone new to take charge of the orphanage and the new woman hated me. She thought I was a burden and she thought my sister was a burden so she abused us for awhile...well, not my sister. I kept her safe. But, she hit me and yelled at me a lot and then just kicked us out today. I...I'm not used to this. She always told me I was so stupid and vulnerable and that I talked too much.... Maybe she's right. I mean. I donno. But she also said Destiny is useless and that's not true." He lowered his voice. "She's more powerful than anybody would ever imagine. But nobody believes me....And maybe that's for the better because she's the rightful ruler, afterall." He paused. "But anyway, yeah. That's my story. That's why everyone decent doesn't want you around and that's why I'm here on the streets." He shifted uncomfortably. "Alright. Now that I've told you, please go."I glanced at Amber. She looked so hurt by Piper's story and desperate needs.
"We want to go but we don't know how to get back." She finally said.
"Go the same way you came." He replied in a 'duh' voice.
"We can't." I replied.
The words seemed to echo.
"We're stuck here," I continued. "The machine disappeared after we arrived."
"But, we still want to help you," Amber added. How were we supposed to do that though?
A/N Guys, what do you think of Piper? Also, I know you're excited for some romance so let's hope the characters decide to give us some ;) This is all I have for awhile so it's up to you to keep it going. I love you guys ✌
