I lifted my gaze and felt my heart skip a beat. I was right – it was none other but the guard of the school – Peter, also known as the Python, because he was very, and I mean very tall, and also because his body was rather slim. Of course, when needed, the guy was able to use a weapon. I wasn’t sure if now was the time, but I could’ve sworn I saw a gun in his belt.
At first I didn’t notice, but after a minute of silence, my hazel eyes were pointed at Aabel, who was now bravely standing in front of the guard, examining him curiously with his gaze. The difference in their heights was about fifty centimeters, and I was almost shocked at how easily the boy was looking at him, his head lifted almost painfully upwards.
“Who are you?” The guard asked. His crooked, yellow teeth and his filled with hatred, eyes were staring right at the pure, shimmering turquoises in front, struggling to identify their owner. I doubt he’s ever seen something like Aabel ..
“The question is, who are you?” The white haired boy asked with a bit of an accusing tone. I was surprised. This was definitely not the type of an answer the guard was expecting .. and also not the type of an answer I was expecting as well. I didn’t even know what was the stranger thinking ..
“What do you mean? I’m the guard of the school, and you’re a cocky fuck! What, you playin’ smartass now, huh?”
“Why would I pretend to be more intelligent, when my brain's capacity is, obviously, bigger than yours?” Aabel raised an eyebrow in confusion, as if it was something we all should know from common sense. I could see the guard’s face turn bright red with anger. “That aside, who are you? Why are you pretending to be someone you’re not?”
“I’ll show you who’s pretending-..” The Python hissed, but was quickly interrupted by Aabel. I think he liked hitching people’s breaths like that .. I shuddered when I remembered how bad it felt when he kept interrupting me a few minutes ago.
“No, seriously. Take it off.”
“T-Take what off?”
“The mask, take it off. It’s clouding your vision."
“Y-You've got a loose screw, kiddo.” Albeit saying so, I saw that the guard had suddenly turned pale. What were they talking about .. ?
“A free advice from me, feel privileged.” The boy stepped closer to mister Python, their foreheads almost touching. Their eyes were watching each other intensely; the old, light-brown ones looking scared, while the other, young and apple-green ones were staring fiercely. “Look around. Seriously, take a good look. Remember everything you just saw .. Then close your eyes, take off the mask and look again.”
“W-who the fuck do you think you are, you freak!” The man grabbed Aabel’s tank top, ready to lift him from the ground and rip the clothing. I immediately gulped in fear and gnawed on the inside of my cheek anxiously, watching them from afar.
“P-Please, don’t-..” I started, but my words trailed off from a quiet whisper, coming from the white haired stranger.
“Touch me.” Aabel breathed, his eyelids half-way closed, as if he was feeling drowsy. The Python blushed a bit and looked at his perfect, cherry lips, after which he lifted his gaze towards the boy’s feminine face. It seemed like he wanted to say something, to protest .. but instead, the guard simply obeyed and pointed his finger forward, grazing the milky skin on the neck before him.
After which he just let him go. Just like that, the Python left Aabel on the ground and froze on his spot, his pupils dilated, his mouth – wide open in shock.
Cleaning any imaginary dust off his clothes, Aabel stepped back and nonchalantly took the vest off my hands, putting it on. Even I was too mesmerized to notice that action, but when I did, I simply blinked in confusion. When did he manage to do all that?
“W-What did you do to him?” I asked, looking at his turquoise eyes, with the hope to see my reflection in them. Of course, I didn’t.
“Well, if I say “nothing”, I would lie.” Aabel confessed, with his back towards me. He was still looking at the man, quite curiously at that. As if he was just watching an ant passing by ..
“Then don’t!” I frowned. To my surprise, the white haired boy turned quickly around, looking at me immediately. My belly felt bad .. That magnetizing gaze of his was making gravity on Earth a bit heavier than usual ..
“I transferred part of his reflection’s memories to him.”
“B..But you said you didn’t remember anyth-..”
“Do you have a speech disorder?” He asked me suddenly, to which I gulped. Not only did I get that weird feeling of déjà vu, but I also felt extremely uncomfortable from his comment .. N-No, I don’t have a speech disorder. I just stutter whenever I feel nervous .. there’s nothing bad in that, w-who’s he to judge me!
“ .. n-no, I don’t .. I-I’m just stuttering like that ..”
“Exactly, speech disorder.”
“I-IT’S NOT A SPEECH DISORDER!”
“Mental disorder?”
“N..No! I just stutter when I’m anxious..”
“So I’m making you anxious?” He asked, staring at me with such a look that I could sworn he was deeply offended. D-Don’t tell me I’ve hurt him .. ?
“N-No, I..”
“Am I annoying you? I’m driving you insane.”
“N-No, Aabel..”
“You’re right, I am. I jumped from a mirror, I appeared out of nowhere, and now you’re going to let me stay at your home ..” He sighed, his eyes shimmering with sadness.
“ N-No, look, it’s okay-.. Wait, what?!” I was feeling so bad about him, that I didn’t even hear what he said .. I could only see those big, green eyes, and now I regretted it dearly. God, why was I so easy to manipulate?!
“Great, I’ll go look around, you know, sightseeing, and I’ll come at seven pm, ‘kay? I wanna see what’s cool about this town.” His sad eyes quickly vanished and that usual, smart-assed attitude returned. And for a moment I thought he was really hurt ..
“I-I don’t remember ever agreeing to this, Aabel-.. AABEL, WAIT! A-AABEL!” The boy left the room quickly, leaving me alone with my thoughts. I could only watch his slowly-disappearing silhouette in the distance, as I tried to take in the information which my current situation held. I was frozen in my room, without even noticing when the guard had returned to his office, not saying a word.
I gulped and sighed, trying to shake off the shock that had taken over me. My pupils were dilated in surprise, my heart was beating loud and fast .. I blinked and opened my mouth, only to close it a moment after, when I realized there was no one who could hear me. I was like a fish on the dry ground, and the waves of reality hit me strong.
I .. invited him home.
I invited an unknown man home.
I invited an ALIEN home.
.. or did it invite itself?
P.S.:
Yup, it's a bit longer. I usually write long chapters in "Convenient Misunderstandings" .. oh well =w=;
The picture of Aabel I included in this chapter is drawn by yuumei on deviantart! It's part of her own original webcomic comic called "Fisheye Placebo" and it's absolutely amazing, both the plot and the art ~ Check it out if you have the time, you won't regret it!
