“Okay, Able-..”
“Aah-bell. Like the “a” in “apple”. You drag the vowel. I don’t want anyone to call me Abel, Able, Eebel, etc.” he instructed me coldly, to which I nodded in submission. Well, it would’ve been .. weird if his name was Able. After all, without much details, that’s how the name of Adam and Eve’s second son was spelled, Abel, who was also the first human being to die. The story was about Cain – the older son, brother of Abel who’s aka Hevel, who was the first man to be born on Earth. Abel was his younger sibling. Together, they worked on the field – Cain cultivating the land, while Abel was a shepherd. One day both sons had to give something to God, but being a shepherd, Hevel had the chance to give a more generous gift, whilst Cain couldn’t really give much. The Lord was pleased with the younger brother, but said nothing about the older one. This supposedly made Cain jealous and bitter, so one day he led his brother to the field. Because Cain also thought his parents loved Abel more, his anger was doubled and so he killed his brother in fury, God knows how. It doesn’t really say what sort of a weapon did he use, but .. we all have imagination, right? I mean, what can a man use to kill another man in a field?
“O-Okay, Aabel .. You really don’t remember how you got out of that mirror? Y-You asked me to get you out of there..”
“I never thought you would listen!” Aabel countered in his defense.
“W..What, of course I would! You did ask me in the most desperate and honest way ...”
“How do you know I was honest?”
“I saw it in your eyes.” I frowned. I had no idea how we suddenly started arguing, but with each sentence of our dialog, my heartbeat was increasing. For some reason my whole body trembled and burned inside when I spoke to him.
How is he making me feel so vulnerable?
“.. alright.” He finally gave up, for now, at least. My heart immediately felt light, possibly from the relief that our fight had ended. It was definitely uncomfortable to argue with someone I didn’t know, nor did I want to know. But that’s a lie, isn’t it?
I was lying to myself. I wanted to know him better .. to know more about him. Where he is from, what’s in his world, how does he feel now, what’s his favorite color .. I just wanted us to talk. But I was also scared. Shocked. I was just .. appalled from the way he could forget something so .. unforgettable.
“L..Look, you were in a mirror.” Here we go again. “And then a volat, I mean .. that big, ugly thing that looks like a sea cat, but flies in the air and has a bright, red light on his belly, started getting closer to you, a-and then you began pleading me to help you and ..”
“You saved me.” The boy confirmed, interrupting my speech again. God, was this going to happen all the time? I don’t like getting my train of thoughts messed up ..
“Y..Yes, I saved you.” I nodded.
“No, look, this world-..”
“What’s going on here?” Another voice sounded, this time interrupting Aabel. I felt unimaginable happiness that he was finally going to understand what it felt like when your words and breath was constantly getting hitched, but I quickly recovered from my little victory and shook my head, realizing I had other stuff to worry about.
Of course, the guard had to come.
P.S.:
