“Push him inside, quickly!” Aabel yelled and I pulled the third volat inside the mirror. It’s been another three months since we retrieved the mirror, and we were struggling with the volat population once more. They were too much now. Especially this week – there’s been at least twenty volats coming from the mirror, and we barely managed to push back inside half of them. Things were not looking good at all. Sleep was the last thing I was thinking about now. It was Aabel who occupied my thoughts – he looked worse and worse with each day. He was pale, he was weak and he barely managed to protect himself. He couldn’t perform that trick with the kiss anymore, which got us in trouble so many times now. Before we would slip from class, hypnotize the guard outside and go catch volats.

Now, it wasn’t possible. Aabel couldn’t do it.

“There’s too many of them! W-We can’t do it. I don’t understand, what’s making them come?!”

“Shut the door, now!” He screamed and I quickly closed the door behind us. We were running a few moment ago from the volats, and we were now in the room with the mirror. The good thing was that the volats outside couldn’t get to us easily. The bad thing was that the volats from the other side of the mirror were coming inside the room!

Aabel roared and took a chair, hitting a volat’s head back inside the mirror just as it peeked outside. Now we were trapped between the volats outside the door, and the volats coming from the mirror. We had … We had no way of stopping them.

“Alright. We’ve had worse.” He breathed.

“N-No, we haven’t. This is the worse situation ever! The school is being evacuated again, the people are running away, I haven’t seen my mother for three months now and she doesn’t even call me … I-I don’t know what are we going to do! Aabel, you have to tell me. You have to tell me what’s going on!”

“Wait, I’m thinking. Just … shut up for a moment.” He grunted and closed his eyes. I gulped and watched his beautiful face as he just sat there on the ground and didn’t say a word. When I heard a growl behind me, I saw another volat coming from the mirror. It was the biggest I’ve ever seen – fat and monstrous.

“Oh, look, a cannibalistic volat. These guys are fun, they’re big and strong.” He suddenly opened his eyes and pointed at the thing.

“W-what, what are you saying, they’re not fun at all, I—“ Before I could say anything more, the volat grabbed my neck and began pushing me inside the mirror. I screamed in horror and quivered in his grip. This was the end for me. There was no escaping. Aabel couldn’t save me, and I couldn’t, too.

I should’ve known. The world is going to hell, and so am I …

“Now, hold on a second. You want me, right?” Aabel suddenly asked. He stood up and looked at the volat, which growled at him in … approval? W-wait, what?

“Yeah, I’m right here. And you’re beautiful. Fat, but beautiful. I’ve always liked your kind. You make a fine drug.”

The creature screamed and dug its nails in my skin. I cried out in pain. God, whatever Aabel is doing right now, it’s not working!

“Let’s get to the point. You’ve always been a dick. Not you in particular, but your kind. And, being the dicks you are, you thought it would be a nice idea to get in this world and, you know, make a mess. Or so I thought. But you’re smart. Smarter than ever, in fact. I don’t know what changed, but you’re not here for the world. You’re not here for the people or Devin. You’re here for me.”

“W-..what are you saying?” I stuttered.

“Shh, darling. As I was saying, you’re here for me. Since I ran away from your world, and you’re dicks, you want to drag my ass back inside, because, let’s face it. I don’t belong here.”
