I was speeding to Texas Roadhouse which is a really good steakhouse nearby. I ran in and the doors just making it on time. I looked around everywhere. Cody was nowhere to be found. My heart sank. What if Kelli was right and he was cheating on me.

I grabbed a seat for two hoping he just got stuck in traffic. I got bored just sitting there. I gave him a few texts. I never got a reply. After an hour I just left. I was trying not to get mad. Tears were coming down my face. Maybe everything was true.

When I walked into my house I went straight to my room. My mom and step dad were at work. They both worked at a hospital up the road. My real dad was a paramedic a few towns over. We didn’t really talk because he got married to another women and had two more kids. She didn’t let him talk to me.

I turned on my Xbox One that was one of my Christmas presents. Still a whole moth away. I’m sure nobody would notice if I used it for the night. I started playing NHL 14. I got it a few months early before anybody else. It was still 2013. I guess only 1000 people got the early release.

I started playing group teams. I always got a huge amount of friend requests on my Xbox 360 just because I was a girl who played video games. So when I got a request to join a party I wasn’t shocked. I usually didn’t accept and join but for some reason I did. I grabbed my mic and listened for a voice.

“Hello?” I heard a sleepy voice saying.

“Umm hey.” I replied. I was wondering why he even invited me.

“You want to play some shootouts?”

“Sure.” I was never good with talking to strangers. I was a very shy person.

“Oh. I’m sorry. I forgot to tell you my name. I’m Baylor.”

“That’s a cool name! I’m Brooke.”

We started playing and talking. After for talking for about an hour I learned he lived in Toronto Canada, played hockey, and all the simple stuff. He was 17. I didn’t say much about myself.

“So, you single?” Baylor asked.

“No. I have a boyfriend. Sorry.” I found the question a little weird.

“Oh. Well you can add me on Facebook if you want. I have to get off for the night. I’m always up for talking. Baylor Mills.”

I laughed and got off. No I wasn’t going to add him. I didn’t add people I didn’t know. Well maybe I’ll just take a look. I picked up my iPhone 5S and searched him up. Wow. He was hot. His profile picture was of him in his hockey uniform. He was a goalie. I started flipping through more pictures. Just some typical bathroom selfies.

I came across one picture of Baylor and his ex-girlfriend. He was standing next to a house holding the blonde girl up in his arms. Her arms were around his neck and they were kissing. I didn’t know it was his ex until I read the comments. People kept asking why they weren’t together anymore. From what I could see she cheated on him.

Just then I got a text from Cody. “I’m so sorry. I forget babe. I’ll make it up to you.” It wasn’t the first time something like this has happened. I shut my phone off and went to sleep.

The next morning I was awaken by my dog Outlaw. My big German Shepherd always had to hog up my whole bed. He made a good alarm clock though. I jumped out of bed and got in the shower. The hot water cleared my brain. I quickly put some make up on and braided my hair into a side fishtail.

Outlaw was barking at something outside by the time I came down the steps. My parents were both sleeping since they had the night shift. As I looked out into my front yard I saw 3 feet of snow. I almost couldn’t believe I still had school today. Then I saw a little white chihauhau shaking in the cold snow.

“My mother is going to kill me.” I walked out the front door and picked the dog up. I set him down in my house and grabbed my car keys. I don’t have time for this.

I went to my classes and got through the day just like any other. I skipped lunch to go skating. Any free chance I get I’m on the ice. My mom finally did text me asking why there was a dog in her house. I never replied.

After I finished my classes I went to hockey practice. Coach Jefferson walked into the locker room looking a little worried. “Who’s ready for tonight’s game?” We all shook our heads. “Well good. We have three college scouts coming to watch the game tonight. They are all coming to see Brooke.”

Most of my team looked happy for me, others just annoyed. “Great job Brooke. I wish I had scouts coming to watch me when I was your age.” Whispered one of the seniors next to me.

I texted my parents, Kelli, and Cody telling them the great news. Of course the only person that didn’t reply was Cody. After practice I went home to grab my uniform and relax for 20 minutes. The little dog was playing with Outlaw.

I was expecting yelling from my mom but when she came in and saw me laying on the couch she sat at the end and said “These two have been playing all day. If nobody claims him we will keep him.”

“Let’s name him Fiasco.” Said my step dad walking in.

“Sounds good but I have to go now. You guys coming to the game tonight?”

“Well of course we are.” My mom replied laughing.

I drove back to the school and went straight to the locker room. I always take my time getting dressed for a game like this. I tied my skates extra tight and taped my stick over again. My coach came over and game me a pep talk before I went out. I was ready.

“Starting for the Columbus Cardinals, number 12 is Brooke Sutter.” I loud speaker boomed. I skated out into the middle of the rink and raised my stick up.

By the 3rd period we were winning 5-2. I got 3 goals. I was skating up the ice when I caught a look into the stands. I saw Cody and Taylor making out. My heart sunk and my mind just stopped working. I collided into a guy twice my size. I felt pain shoot up me. My stick cracked in half and I heard a popping noise come from my ankle.

“I can’t move.” I was screaming. I never felt so much pain in my whole entire life. Coach Jefferson didn’t even trying to pick me up off the ice.

“It’ll be alright Sutter.” He yelled those last words into my face before the paramedics took me away.

“Hey kid. You were really good out there! You even got the goal before you got hit.” One of the paramedics were trying to talk to me but I couldn’t hear anything because the pain was so bad. He moved my leg and I let out a huge scream.
