When I woke the next morning Baylor wasn’t in bed with me. I looked over to the second bed and Jessie wasn’t there either. There was a note on a table by the bed so I picked it up to read it. “Good morning babe! I have hockey practice and didn’t want to wake you up. I know how you are in the morning. I’ll be back at 11. Be ready to go out! I love you.-Baylor”. I rolled over to look at the clock. It was 10:30 which was extremely early for me.
I didn’t have much time so I jumped out of bed and took a shower. I quickly put on my skinny jeans from the night before, slid my black high heels on, and grabbed a cute black shirt from Forever 21. Usually when I get ready in the morning I sing so when I did I didn’t even notice.
“I don’t know where you’re going or when you’re coming home. I left the keys under the mat to out front door for one more chance to hold you close. I don’t know where you’re going. Just get yourself back home.” I was singing to myself at I was curling my hair.
“Sounds good.” I practically burned myself because Baylor scared me so bad. He was leaning against the wall smiling at me. “So you remember make-up, hair products, and day clothes but not pajamas. You did that on purpose.
I started blushing. “I did not.” I turned back around to grab my phone. Baylor came up behind me and wrapped his arms around my waist sitting his head on my shoulder. We took a mirror picture together before he started kissing my neck.
“Am I interrupting something?” Jessie mocked as he walked past the bathroom door.
Baylor just spun me around and rolled his eyes. He just ignored Jessie’s comment. I had my head and hand resting on Baylor’s chest. His strong arms made me feel so safe. “So I was thinking I can meet your parents today.” Baylor whispered in my ear.
“You know I don’t think that is the best idea.” I looked up at him.
“Come on Brooke. I know how much you hate hiding it from them.” He had a good point.
“Fine. Tomorrow before you leave. We will tell them together.” I hugged Baylor close. I can’t believe he would be leaving so soon.
We walked out of the bathroom and sat down the bed. Baylor leaned over and was looking for something in his bag. “I have to be back at the arena by 5 o’clock. I brought you my jersey to wear to support me.” He finally pulled out a number 29 jersey with his last name on the back.
“Baby! I love it.” I hugged him so tightly.
“Wait, I’m not done.” He pushed me back gently. “I have something else for you.” I gave him a very confused look. Baylor just smiled and laughed at me. He pulled a small box out of his pocket. “Here is the promise ring I’ve been meaning to give you.” I screamed and practically tackled him down to the bed. I gave him a huge. “So you like it right?”
“I love it silly.” I kissed him again. I then remembered that Jessie was still in the hotel room with us. I turned around and looked at him sleeping on the next bed over listening to music. Baylor laughed some more and sat up with me. The ring was gold with an infinity looking knot in the middle. It was also outlined with a few diamonds.
Baylor slipped on my finger. “Bay! How did you know my finger size? It fits perfect!”
“Lucky guess.” He smiled and looked down. “I just don’t want to go back home tomorrow.” Tears started to fill his eyes. Shortly after they filled mine. He pulled me into a tight, close, warm hug. If I could have one wish he would never have to leave me.
We went out for lunch together and spent the rest of our time at the hotel. Baylor and I stayed in bed watching movies. Jessie went over to the next room to hang out with the team. My head we resting on Baylor’s chest listening to his heart beat and breath. It was so relaxing.
I must have fallen asleep because around 4:45 Baylor gently woke me up telling me that we had to get ready and leave to make it on time. “Come on baby. It’ll be fun. Please wake up.”
“No!” I moaned into his chest.
“Brooke. I can’t be late.”
“Fine.” I jumped up laughing. It was never easy for me to wake up but for him I would.
I drove him over to the arena which took 5 minutes by car. We almost didn’t make it on time though. After dropping Baylor off I drove back home to get some more clothes for tonight and tomorrow. I told my parents I was staying at Kelli’s for one more night. They were totally okay with it.
I made it back in time wearing Baylor’s jersey right before the game started. He played amazing just like a pro. His team won 4-0 giving him a shutout. He was a really amazing goalie. We met after the game and I gave him a sweet kiss for doing so well.
Baylor had to be back at the hotel by 10 o’clock again so we had to go straight there. He was really tired so we just went to sleep. I slept in his arms for the last time until god knows when. The next morning I woke up with tears in my eyes. Baylor was already awake running his fingers through my hair.
“How did you sleep last night?” I looked up at Baylor who had blood shot eyes probably from tears.
“I would be lying if I said good. I just don’t want to go babe. Plane leaves at noon.” He replied.
“I’m sorry baby. It’ll be okay though, right? It always is.” I started crying again.
“9 more months and I will be 18. 17 months and I will be out of high school. I know it seems like a long time right now but it will go by fast. I promise.” I tried to make him feel better but I knew it wasn’t working.
“Let’s just meet your parents next time. I would rather spend time with my baby girl.” Baylor gave me a kiss on my forehead.
We both took turns taking a shower and getting ready. I decided just to wear some comfy sweats and pull my brown hair back. I helped him put all his luggage and goalie gear into my car. When I parked the car at the airport Baylor whispered “I love you” and I told him to stay strong.
We walked through the airport together hand in hand dropping his luggage and gear off. I walked up as far as I could go without a ticket. “Flight 217 boarding.” When I hear the loud speaker announce that I started crying.
“Baby, stay strong. It will be okay and I’ll be back again soon. We don’t have to be away from each other much longer. This is not goodbye. That I can promise you.”
I dug my face into his chest as he gave me one last big hug. “I love you.”
“I love you too Brooke.”
“Final call for flight 217.” The loud speaker rang again.
Baylor kissed me on my forehead and then my lips. “See you soon sweetheart.” He walked away leaving me in tears. I knew he was too. Baylor turned around to give me one last glance before boarding the plane. He couldn’t see me falling apart and dying on the inside. Three days was not enough.
I ran out of the airport and made it to my car before really losing it. I could see people turning their heads to stare but I didn’t care. I wanted my boyfriend back that I missed so much already. I sat in my car and cried for another ten minutes before I got control over myself. I loved him dearly.
