"Simmy," announced Mama.

Alison looked blank.

"Shimmy?" suggested Amber. "Shimmy? Belly dancing?"

"Aak-waa nay-taal!" explained Mama. "Pregnant womans, Melanda is essample, go to aak-waa nay-taal class. Is in simmy pool at Pleasure Centre!"

"You can't swim," Alison explained. "You have never learnt to swim. It might be a bit scary."

Mama looked a little bit surprised.

"Melanda is daring modern lady," she announced.

"Are you sure about this?" asked Alison.

"Melanda think wear rubbery ring. Big one because pregnant. Round tummy. Nice woman in AMDA say good to do aqua natal swimmy. Maybe just pattle. Splish splosh if water too scary. Maybe simmy little bit with rubber ring and armbands. Then maybe learn proper simmy when babies born. All trendy modern babies learn swim. Daring modern babies. With nappies."

Mama showed us. She had got everything ready for her first aqua natal class. There was a big yellow towel. She had a nice, big turquoise swimming costume designed to cover the tops of her arms and legs. It even had a little frilly skirt.

There was a candy pink plastic hat with flowers on it. She had a giant stripy rubber ring (white, turquoise and candy pink stripes) and pink armbands which matched the hat.

She also had an AMDA carrier bag full of nice bath things.

"You don't need bubble bath," Alison said.

Mama looked doubtful. "Bubbly bath have pure nat'ral gradients. AMDA lady say."

"Not in a swimming pool. You can take the conditioner and the shampoo, for washing your hair later under the shower. But not the bubble bath."

"Do you really need the rubber duck?" asked Topaz.

Mama smiled, and picked up the duck.

"Clucky."

"Clucky is a lucky ducky," explained Adam.

"Isn't that the plastic duck she put on that big Easter cake?" asked Carmen.  "I hope she washes it thoroughly before putting it on food again."

Everything was ready.

"Melanda go simmy! Daring modern lady Melanda go simmy!"

"How are you going to get there?"

"Melanda daring modern lady go bus. With nice lady work AMDA. Also esspecting baby. We go Pleasure Centre. Aak-waa nay-taal then café nice cup tea. Very fooool prooooof busss roooot. Goes round and round, always end up in right place some time. Machine on bus nannounce when we reach Pleasure Centre. There is also picture on screen. Zee-zee-pee-zee. Do not worry. Melanda crossss roads very careful and there issss no roads to crossss to get toooo busss stop anyways. If things wrong go, Melanda phone home. Look at this thing. Isssss water prooof and also beeeep when bus is at Pleasure Centre."

She proudly displayed her I-Pulse. It was exactly the same shade of turquoise as her bracelets.

"Where is Kertav when you are swimming?"

"Pub, pub, drink alcohols, other mans, male bondy, good, good. Melanda have many lady friends, Kertav decide maybe have some man friends."
