CHAPTER 6

The abrupt pause by Merida had everyone confused. Merida and Amelia’s staring context made everyone uneasy and they were looking at each other for answers. Amelia sudden movement had everyone jump into action. The sudden silence in the chatter of the room followed by the panic had the guards stationed outside running in. Nate sensing the sudden change in the atmosphere clung to his mother whining. Alpha Nathaniel immediately took his three years old son in his arms. The Beta Zach was standing protectively in front of his mate and so was Alpha William. Some others were startled while some looked around with cautious eyes. Mara seemed amused. Jazz’s cry of surprise by the turn of events and Jasper coming to her side.

All in the span of mere seconds had sent Amelia running towards Merida who was still frozen but seemed to come out of it when she found Nathaniel standing in front of her protectively with one of the guards taking Nate. Caden all but ran beside Amelia to stop her or protect her no one could comprehend not even himself.

Merida moved around Nathaniel to meet Amelia only to find two guards standing in front of her. As she tried to move past them, one of them turned around to stop her. Just then Amelia reached her. Now each guard was facing each of the girl. When the guards refused to give way, much to the girls extreme displeasure. Both of them simultaneously raised their right hand towards the guard’s neck, who had his back towards them even before they could understand what was happening they were unconscious. Actually, the girls had pressed down two fingers on a pressure point on their neck.

Both the guards fell. There was a mixture of surprised gasps and startled yelps. Only Caden and Nathaniel were frozen due to shock, with wide eyes and open mouths staring at the scene. They weren’t the only ones who had their jaws hanging open. All this happened so suddenly that nobody knew what to make of it. Nate was curiously looking at the guards fallen figures. The ladies in question were standing a foot away from each other still in denial.

Again there was silence broken by Nate, “Mummy, I want to see that again.”

That seemed to snap everyone out of their reverie. Everyone focused their eyes on Amelia and Merida who now were in each other’s arms mumbling something. That was a sight to see with some people looking at them with astonishment and disbelief. Casper had almost expected a cat fight after the stunt they just pulled. Caden’s head was spinning around. While the Alpha and the two Betas did not know what to do. Mara was curious and somewhat jealous. She was certain it was stunt of Amelia to gain attention. Jazz and Jasper had entered a world of their own when they made eye contact.

After two full minutes when they finally pulled apart with tears falling down their eyes. They still did not seem to acknowledge the room full of people as they reminisced old memories. Merida started to say, “Amy, I thought…”

Amelia shook her head and declared, “You can’t get rid of me so easily you know.”

Then with a teasing twinkle in eye she opened her mouth again, “Merii-”

Merida had foreseen the look in her eyes that promised mischief. So the moment she opened her mouth and uttered a syllable she covered put her hand over her mouth in a childish attempt to stop her. Feeling like a little kid, Amelia licked her hand, who just shrieked and jumped away. Nate’s gleeful laughter bought her attention to him. She smiled and her eyes shined. She looked at Merida and understanding the question the Luna nodded. Barely containing herself Amelia reached out to Nate with an ear-to-ear smile. She had found the biggest joy in her life.

Nathaniel took a step back, moving nearer to Nate. He was restraining himself from attacking Amelia especially, when she was hugging his mate’s life out of her but their son was a total different story. He understood her acquaintance with his mate but not the depth of it and was still wary of her. Merida shook her head at her mate. She placed a calming hand his shoulder. He relaxed a bit and looked into her eyes. She smiled in assurance and both of them turned to look at their son.

Nobody saw Caden moving almost protectively along with Amelia. He wanted to protect her in case of danger. ‘Sigh.’ What he did not want to accept was that he did not want the guards who just entered and any unmated males in the room to look at her bare back. Beta and a very good friend of his caught his eye and raised a questioning eyebrow. He froze for half a second and moved his eyes towards their Alpha and his son. He was trying to say that he was near Amelia for the safety of them. As Amelia neared the guard holding Nate, he slipped into the shadows without hesitation so as to not draw attention. He chose a place where he was near enough and not seen as well. Looking keenly at the seen in front of him.

Amelia reached out to Nate and him smiling, literally jumped in her arms. She laughed merrily while tickling him. Calming down, she introduced herself. “Hi, big boy. I am your Aunt Amelia.”

“I am Nate.” The three year old replied in his cute baby voice.

“I will tell you a secret.” Nate looked at her with his big eyes. Amelia leaned in and spoke softly in his ear but loud enough for the people standing around her to hear. “Amelia is what everyone calls me except your mom. You are special so you can call me Amy.”

He grinned at her, nodding his head. Then looked around. He leaned in, “What if someone calls you Amy?”

“You are special. Only your mom and you can call me that. Otherwise I won’t listen.” Nate was enjoying keeping a secret. He liked being called a big boy. He loved his aunt already. They chatted away laughing every now and then. Amelia moved towards the staircase to have a seat.

Both of them were oblivious to the people around them. Nate did not know that his parents, the guard and Caden in the shadows heard them loud and clear. Amelia did not know that Nate did not go to anybody just like that. One had to earn his trust first. Nathaniel was shocked at his son. Merida was proud. Beta Zach, his mate and Casper were stunned as well. Mara ignored them. Jazz and Jasper came out of their world. Others went back to talking among themselves. The guards left. Caden was glad nobody could see him as he felt a strange sense of pride.

A/N: I know the chapter is not that great but it is 1157 words long. Sigh.
