After handing the file back to Ms. Caroline, she yanked it out of my hands then stormed out of the house.

Mom and Dad were staring at me. They both looked scared.

"I'm going up to my room," I said, walking to the staircase.

"Luke," Mom said. "That was very disrespectful of you."

I stopped for a moment.

"Yet, you constantly ignore me, drink beer, and make me do all the work in the house."

I said coldly. "And besides, you did make fun of my best friend."

Dad turned his head around to face me.

"Don't ever do that to Ms. Caroline again." he threatened.

"I will," I threatened back.

Dad made a scolding face at me, then went back to staring at the television screen.

As soon as I marched upstairs, Seth was already in my bed, playing on his Nintendo.

"I heard you downstairs," Seth replied. "Are you alright?"

"You tell me," I responded. "That witch deserved it as well as those clowns."

Seth made no comment.

"Like last time?" he guessed.

I glared at him.

"I did that to protect you," I explained.

"And you got yourself arrested." Seth reminded.

"The guy had to live with a neck brace for eight months."

"He was going to hurt you," I protested.

Seth lowered his game and stared at me with smug eyes.

"You know, I did believe that you weren't like the rest of them, but it turns out I was wrong."

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"Luke, I am going to say this as brutal as possible." Seth explained.

"You have the IQ of an overbearing mother."

I stared at him for a moment.

"Maybe that's why Cole doesn't like you anymore," persisted Seth, "or Ms. Caroline, or anyone!"

"Don't mention Cole to my face-" I hissed.

"Or what?" Seth laughed. "You're going to push me downstairs too?"

I bit my lip.

"I can't believe I am saying this," Seth sighed.

"But you don't know how to trust people."

"I trust you and her," I persisted.

"I like her mom-"

"You only say that because you want to make out with Cole." Seth snorted.

I blushed fiercely.

"Shut up," I barked.

"Make me," Seth retorted.

He hopped out of bed and opened the window.

"Where are you going?" I demanded.

"Consider yourself to be a loner," Seth responded coldly.

"Call me when you and Cole make up."

"Seth!" I groaned.

He leaped out of the window and jumped down the roof. I stormed up to my window and called his name three times.
