After Leo had come home, it's like they dropped off the face of the earth. Stevie was dying to reconnect with her friend and at five months pregnant, right before Christmas, she felt it was time. She picked up the phone and dialed. It rang only once before it was picked up.
"Hello?"
"Hey, its Stevie" The line is quiet for several long moments. "Should I call back later?"
"No, Stevie. I'm just so happy you called" Mick says, the tears evident in his voice. "How are you doing?"
"I'm great. I would like to talk about everything in person, would you like to come over?"
"I would love to"
"I'm sorry about the album" Stevie says, knowing she needed to apologize for its near failure.
"I understand. I would probably do even worse in your situation."
"I don't know how much worse you could get considering all I was doing"
"You seem a lot better now. Is there a time I should come by?"
"Are you free now?"
"As a matter of fact, I am"
"Perfect, see you soon?"
"Yes. See you Stevie."
She hung up and immediately went upstairs to put on a little more make up and apply lipstick. She checked her outfit and felt pretty good. The doorbell rang, and she didn't realize she had been up there so long. She goes to grab the door when she hears Leo crying. She sighs, she's so tired. She picks up her little boy and heads downstairs. Lindsey had already gotten the door and let Mick in.
"Hello!" Stevie said, greeting him with a hug.
"Hello! You look beautiful" he says.
"Thank you"
"Hi Lindsey" Mick acknowledges. Lindsey just nodded and Stevie felt the tension between them.
"Can you guys get along? For me?" Stevie says. "I really don't know what's going on here"
"He is the one who brought Carol back into our life in Hawaii, he's the one who gave Carol her job back at the studio and he is the one who basically handed our son to that bitch!" Lindsey said.
"Most of this was already dealt with. Mick is our friend and I'm sure he didn't know Carol would be there waiting to take him"
"Carol...she's the one who took your son?"
"Like you didn't know." Lindsey scoffs.
"I...I didn't. I called her to talk because I felt so guilty over the whole thing and we weren't on speaking terms. I gave her the what for after the Hawaii thing and I only saw her one other time after that. I was coming through the neighborhood and I spotted her. I brought her back to her apartment and she invited me inside. She poured me a glass of wine and after that...well I don't know but that's when she got her job back. After another falling out, we hadn't spoken until Leo was missing"
"Somehow I don't believe that" Lindsey says. "I don't know why you invited him here. He has no right"
"Stop it, please. I don't need the stress. I want to move on with my life and forget this whole thing ever happened. Precious time was taken away from me with our little boy and I will not let any more time pass me by. If you are going to be mean and nasty, Lindsey, you can go to your studio until I tell you to come back"
"I'm not leaving you"
"Then be nice. And if you can't be nice, be civil. For goodness sake, it's almost Christmas, a time for putting aside our differences and being together."
"Fine. I will do it for you. It's my job to make sure my wife and my kids are happy and healthy. I can put it aside...for tonight" Lindsey says, looking up at the tall man briefly.
"Thank you" she says, kissing him softly on the lips. His hand goes to her belly and he gives it a gentle rub.
"I love you"
"I love you too" she tells him. "Mick, would you like something to drink?"
"Sure, love. Have you got something red?"
"I do. I will be right back" Lindsey volunteers to hold their sleepy boy for her and she agrees. Leo has gotten so big and he could tell it was taxing for her to carry him around, especially now that she was getting bigger as well. Lindsey is left alone with Mick and it's awkward to say the least.
"So uh....how has everything been?" Mick asked.
"Hell, but it got better. After Leo came home, we have been very busy. Stevie has been clean for a while now and she's been able to gain the weight she needed to satisfy her doctor. The baby is healthy and our relationship is improving and getting stronger by the day. She's writing more than ever it seems and she's just been so happy and sweet. I have my Stephanie back"
"Congratulations on the new baby. Pregnancy does suit her"
"Thank you. Yes it does."
"I'm happy she's recovered, as well. I'm so sorry for all that has happened. It's been hard on me too and I know I'm at fault. It breaks my heart to know I've caused you both so much pain"
"I guess Stevie is right. It's not really your fault. At least we have him back"
"Will we ever be friends again, Lindsey?" Mick asked hesitantly.
"I would like to but I have a lot of things to sort through. I'm dealing with a lot that I had blocked out when Leo was taken..."
"I understand."
"I'm back, and you didn't kill each other!" Stevie joked, giving them each a glass of wine.
"Nope, and we were just talking about the baby."
"Oh really? I'm so very excited! A little girl!" Stevie says, beaming.
"A girl! Oh that's so wonderful! Leo's going to be a great big brother"
"Thank you. I think he will be too. They're going to be close in age but I'm so happy"
"You're going to do a wonderful job."
"I hope so. Two under two was never on my mind but I don't think I would go back and change anything"
"It was destiny"
"It definitely was" She says, placing a hand on her small belly.
