Chapter 1 Jayde Carter

"Hello Miss Carter?" A woman's voice spoke into Jayde's ear as soon as she answered the phone.

"Hello." Jayde said nervously.

"My name is Abigail Alisa Tyler. I'm working for JP Tyler Publishing and was wondering if you would like to meet with me tomorrow to discuss your application."

"Sure. Where would you like me to meet you?"

"How about coming over to my apartment and we'll talk there. I live at 1412 N Larkspur Lane. The code for the building is 483624. My apartment is on the 35th floor. If you can come at 10, that would be perfect."

"I can. And thank you."

"Have a great rest of your day Miss Carter." Abigail Alisa said to her.

"Thanks you too."

Jayde was really nervous the next morning she had to bring her suitcase with her because she was homeless and hoped that Miss Tyler wouldn't hold it against her.

She got into the elevator and pushed 36th floor. Their was only one door. So she went to it and knocked. A man answered the door. He was tall with black hair and blue eyes.

"Hello sir, I'm here to see Miss Tyler."

"You must be Jayde Carter." The man said.

"Yes sir." Jayde said nervously.

"I'm Jonathan Tyler. Abby Alisa is my sister. Anyways why don't you come on in and I'll call Abby."

As soon as she came in he noticed that she had a suitcase with her. He picked up his cell phone and dialed Abigail's number.

"Hey Jonny what's going on?" Abigail said as soon as she answered.

"Miss Carter is here would you mind coming up?" He said casually into the phone.

"I'll be right there."

"Okay thanks." Jonathan said and then hung up. He watched as the young girl looked around. She had Caribbean blue eyes , and long black hair down to her lower back.

Abigail walked into the room. Jayde turned around and smiled.

"You must be Jayde. I'm Abigail Alisa." She said taking Jayde's hand and shaking it. That's when she noticed the suitcase.

Jayde caught them looking at it and decided she should explain. "After I escaped my step father, I became homeless. So if I don't want my clothes and everything I have to get stolen I have to take it with me where ever I go."

Jayde was extremely embarrassed.

"Your homeless?" Abigail asked shocked.

"Yes. I have been for almost 4 years." Jayde said.

"We have some questions for you."
Abigail Alisa said to her.

"Sure what would you like to know?" Jayde asked.

"How long is your stepfather in Jail for?"

"He got 8 years and has the possibility of getting out in 6 months."

"Why so little time for murder?" Abigail asked.

"Kris Smalley didn't get prison time for the murder. He got prison time for 2 counts of battery and assault" Jayde said sadly.

"What?" Abby said shocked.

"They considered me an unreliable source. Since I was abused as a child, they didn't believe I could be objective. So they said guilty to battery of me and my mother and not guilty to murder."
