"Do not go gentle into that good night."
Also I meant to update yesterday but plans got in the way. So enjoy a span of a few chapters I stayed up too late working on! Thanks for reading & enjoy 💕
JACK was sitting at his desk in Chemistry class. Partially listening to his teacher, Mr. Oiler, and partially watching the clock for the moment in struck twelve-thirty. Not that class ended then or anything; nobody else was waiting for that time exactly. But Jack was giddy and exited and it was almost time.
He shifted in his seat again and Bob, who happened to be in the class with him and was seated across the room, looked at him strangely. Jack avoided his gaze because fuck Bob. At least Wade wasn't here - and Mark wasn't here either, for the record, but that didn't matter because he'd see him soon.
Earlier in the day the two had made plans to meet at the boys bathroom at twelve-thirty. Actually, they'd been doing this for weeks now, almost a month and it was nice to hang out with Mark alone for a while. He glanced at the clock again - thirty seconds.
A few students glanced at him around the room. They'd caught on to his timely behaviour - but fortunately, the teachers either didn't care about the suspicious timing every day or didn't notice. Twenty seconds. Bob was staring at him, then looking up at the clock. Fifteen seconds. Ten seconds. Five.
And then it was time. As if he was an alarm clock, his arm sprung up in the air and Mr. Oiler glanced at him knowingly. "Go ahead."
Jack smiled appreciatively while a few students glared at him, and because he liked making a scene and he found it funny, the second he got up he did a little bow in mock gratitude and swiftly walked out of the room. He heard a scoff, probably from Bob just as the door closed behind him and the only thing heard in the silent hallways were his paced footsteps and thudding heart.
The bathrooms were just down the hallway; when he pushed open the door to the boys bathroom, he was pleased to find Mark in his usual spot, leaning against one of the sinks. He smirked at the sight of Jack. He was wearing black jeans and a red shirt today that went nicely with his messy red hair, and he looked charmed, brown eyes lighting up when Jack walked closer.
"Hey," Mark said in his smooth voice, and Jack stopped in front of him.
"Hey," said Jack, who was grinning and probably looked like a child on Christmas morning. But to be with Mark was like a gift to him, one that he enjoyed. In greeting, Jack softly tilted his head upward and pecked the slightly taller boy on the lips.
"You look nice today," Mark murmured when Jack was no longer attached to his lips, with made the Irish boy giggle. He actually didn't - his brown hair was a disaster, and not the messy, good kind but more like strands of hair were everywhere. His eyes were probably baggy because he couldn't sleep recently; he'd much rather stay awake to the thought of Mark and everything else going on in his life. And on top of that he threw on clothes this morning that didn't go together at all.
"Thanks. You look better though." This caused Mark to snort and smile and God, his smile was beautiful.
"Hey, by the way, I was thinking." Mark began, "Do you wanna meet up after school? I can go to your place if you want, hang out for a bit."
"Sure!" said Jack without thinking, smiling brightly.
"Great." And then, after a genuine smile, they looked at the time. "Shit, it's lunchtime," said Mark, who frowned suddenly. "Okay, um, I'll meet you at your place after school."
"Okay," said Jack and then Mark pulled him closer and kissed him. It was short but sweet, and they said goodbye and walked out of the bathroom. The moment they did so they were enemies again, and Jack walked back to his locker, Mark taking the opposite way. Students crowded the halls and Jack pushed through them until he was at his locker.
He took out his lunch. Just as he was turning away, he felt a hand in his shoulder and heard a voice. "Hey," Felix said.
"Hi," greeted Jack with a small smile. They walked down the hallway together to the cafeteria, and when they got there they sat down at their usual table with the usual group. A conversation was started, but Jack wasn't paying attention at all. He was staring at the red headed boy sitting at the table of jocks and cheerleaders a few meters ahead, noticing how bright his smile was even from that far away. His features were no longer outlined like they were up close, but either way he was beautiful. Jack sighed dreamily, then kind of flushed when he realized he'd done so.
"What?" Felix smirked, obviously noticing the sound of contempt, and Jack sat lower in his seat. He tried to tell him it was nothing, he was just tired, but Felix didn't believe him because Felix was an inquisitive bitch. This might have been a perk, might have been a flaw. "Why'd you sigh like that? Come on, tell me."
When Jack still refused, Felix pulled closer to him and followed his gaze. "Why're you-" and then he stopped, and Jack knew exactly what he saw. He saw the red haired boy, but apparently he didn't see the beautiful red haired boy Jack saw, because suddenly Felix was frowning and pulling back in a curt movement. "Oh. Him."
Felix's tone was almost accusing of something, and it made Jack suddenly and strangely defensive. "Yeah, him."
Felix looked him straight in the eye. It was a long stare, as if he was looking for something, but eventually when Jack was beginning to feel a little bit uncomfortable he looked away and sighed. "Okay, whatever. Not my business. Anyways,
"Are we sill hanging out after school today?"
And because Jack was a stupid, idiotic excuse of a human being, he shrugged and said, "Okay."
