"Nggghh," I moaned as I was woken up by the light flooding into my eyes. I slowly woke up and slid myself out of my sleeping bag. "Okay, time to fight some monsters!" I groaned as I started packing up my campsite before heading towards the village.
I walked into the village, the silence that the night had provided was starting to be broken by birds starting to wake and get on with their day. The air around me was cold and crisp, which woke me up completely.
"Miss! You have to help me!" I heard a small voice call out. I looked to my side to see a little girl tugging at my skirt.
"Hi there! What do you need?" I asked as I crouched down to her level.
"The monster came in and took my mummy!" She sniffled.
"Oh. It's okay, I'm going to go save everyone including your mummy," I said while ruffling her hair before standing back up.
"Really! You must be very strong!" She beamed at me.
"Well, I guess you could say that!" I smirked while striking a silly pose.
"Hehehe you're funny!!" She giggled before looking up at me. "Can I come with you pllleeaasseee??" She whined.
"I don't think that would be a very good idea." This mission was going to be hella dangerous, I couldn't live with myself if I got a child injured.
"Please miss," she said, looking up at me with her big green eyes.
"Oh don't use the puppy dog eyes!" I groaned. "Fine! But you have to follow my every order!" I responded in a serious tone.
"What is your name miss? Mine is Anna!" She asked as she took my hand.
"Well Anna, I'm Y/N," I responded. We walked further into the forest with a comfortable silence falling over us.
"How did you get so strong?!" She asked, breaking the silence that had fallen.
"Oh, I've just trained a lot, it's taken a lot of work," I laughed.
"I've never had a chance to train!" She pouted.
"Awwww, it's okay!" I laughed as I picked her up and put her on my shoulders.
"Okay, now we're in the forest so you have to be careful and listen to everything I tell you," I said to her.
"Okay! I'll be careful!" She giggled as she wrapped her arms around my neck.
"Onward then," I laughed as I ran into the forest. She was giggling like crazy as she bounced up and down as I ran.
"So, have you ever seen the monster?" I questioned.
"No, I've only heard it, its really scary!" She whispered, her grip on my neck tightening from fear. I looked around the forest that was surrounding me, the ground was almost completely covered by a soft moss, other than the makeshift path that was carved out through the forest from what I believe to be from people treading through here.
"ERGH gross!" I yelled as I scraped some cobweb off my face "Wow, there are cobwebs everywhere," I exclaimed as I looked at my surroundings. The bushes that were scattered around the path were completely covered by cobwebs, making it seem like a winter wonderland... if by wonderland you mean creepy and sticky. Some of the trees had been recently knocked down to form a path through the forest.
"Please don't tell me that the monster is actually a spider... please no," I muttered as I walked further.
Well, I hopped further because I was dodging all of the webs just lying around just WAITING for me to step on them. We walked into the center of the forest. It was a large clearing with a gigantic tree which was hollowed out in the middle, creating a sort of den, and you guessed it, it's covered in cobwebs.
"Oh it is so a spider," I muttered as I let Anna slide herself off my shoulders.
"Okay you wait here and whatever you do, don't open your eyes.... it's gonna get messy," I explained as I hid her behind a few mossy trees that had fallen over to crest a small den that was out of sight.
I walked back towards the tree and thought about a way to lure whatever the monster was out.
To be honest, me thinking the monster is here is just a guess but whatever.
I eventually decided on doing what I do best messing things up, by that I mean I'm going to break some of the cobwebs and hope that angers the spider. It's probably not a great idea to anger it but, how bad can it even be?
"Come here spider!" I whispered to myself as I broke a few webs, this sent vibrations inside the den through large strings that connected the whole labyrinth of webs that covered the forest.
Suddenly a yellow dot appeared from inside the den... Then 7 more.
It's probably just 8 fireflies, right!?
Yeah, I totally didn't wake up a massive spider.
A hideous screech was let out and a giant spider came scampering out of the tree. It's long, hairy legs were twitching with every move, it's eight eyes following my every move with laser focused precision, and worst of all the pincers, they were moving together then separating with every breath the beast took, it was almost teasing me saying 'look what I can do to you'.
"Lucky for me, I'm not scared of spiders!" I laughed as I lunged towards the monster, jumping on top of its head.
"Wow, what lovely 8 eyes you have!" I whispered as I hung upside down from its head so I could see it's eyes. "Oops, I mean 7," I muttered as I shot one of its eyes with an ice beam.
It let out a scream of pain as it scattered around the clearing at lightning speed, throwing me off in the process.
"Wow, you should teach me to run that fast!" I ran towards the spider, but I couldn't catch up. Honestly, I should probably jog more often.
"ICE DRAGONS FANG!" I yelled as my fangs started to freeze as ice started to form around them.
I jumped towards its head but it turned last minute and swatted me away with it's butt, sending me skidding across the ground only stopping once I hit the trees.
I stood up and brushed the dirt off of me. I looked around me and noticed that I left a trail of missing dirt behind me when I skidded.
"Wow, you've got a pretty cool butt! All mine does is look great!" I winked, the spider started to turn again so it was facing away from me. "What are you doing?" I questioned.
I was quickly given an answer as it sent a long string of webs at me, I was instantly wrapped up to the point where all I could move was my neck.
"Well I guess this is a little bit of a sticky situation," I said while trying not to laugh. I could practically hear the guild yelling at me to take everything more serious.
The spider scampered towards me, staring at me with its now 7 beady eyes. It raised up two of its front legs and spun me around, wrapping me even more in its sticky web. I was stuck onto a nearby web and the spider scampered towards me once again and crawled onto the web. It lifted up its pincers and prepared to bite me.
"Y/N! No!" A small voice yelled in horror and the spider stopped instantly and lowered itself down from the web.
It started scampering around the clearing, knocking over trees and moving logs in a frenzy of what I assumed to be anger, but what was it doing?
Then it hit me...
It was looking for Anna.
