The Rainbow Disappears Anyway

The little girl had great, big dreams.

She told her mother that she'd never give up.

Always the best,

Always ongoing,

Always winning.

Moving too fast,

Leaving out too much,

Forgetting to take a step back.

Sixteen in college,

Nobody by her side,

Looking at the picture of her mother,

In black and white.

Dead.

Overworked.

She fought

Competitors, rivals, thoughts, and emotions,

One word in head,

Win.

Then,

She too, died from that.

Too much work,

Too much money,

Too successful,

Too lonely.

Not a mother of a strong daughter,

Not a friend of a caring person,

Not a wife of a handsome billionaire,

Not a woman living in her dreams.

She finally turned her head,

But the path back,

Too dark,

No light,

Too sad,

No joy.

Empty.

Lonely.

Oh.

And too dead,

No life.

Because she

Couldn't trust the hands extended towards her,

Couldn't appreciate the promise of a carousel,

Couldn't enjoy the smell of dough in oven,

Couldn't drop everything

And watch a rainbow disappear.

Because she thought

That life can't be beautiful,

That superman can't fly,

That the rainbow would disappear

anyways.
