Your P.O.V

The Brooklyn sky was painted a vast variety of pastel colors, the sun had nearly fully disappeared as I strolled through the park. I checked my phone for the tenth time, waiting for a response from my friend, Sophie. We had agreed to meet at the park, but it had been almost an hour since we made those plans. Finally, after what seemed like forever, I received a reply from her. She was always late when we made plans, but I arrived places at least 10 minutes early most of the time. The text read, "Sorry, I was driving! I just got here, where are you?" I typed a reply stating my location, and soon she came into sight.
"Hey, _______!" She said excitedly. My friend and I were complete opposites. She was an extrovert and was never not happy. She was extremely energetic and had an amazing sense of style. However, I usually liked staying at home and reading or doing indoor activities. I seldom liked being in large crowds of people, but when I did, it didn't last long. I liked spending time outside alone, it felt more peaceful that way. My clothing choice depended on my mood, but I mostly didn't care what I was wearing.
"Hello." I said, smiling and embracing her. "I was thinking we could go shopping and then maybe get something to eat after that." I said, looking around. "That sounds pretty good! Who's car are we taking?" She asked, playing with her hair. "Can we take yours? Mine's low on gas." I sighed. "Sure." She nodded. "By the way, do you see this amazing sunset?" I asked, reaching for my phone to snap a picture. It's almost as beautiful as Joji. I shook the thought off, thinking about him made me sad, knowing that he will never feel the same about me.
Sophie and I had a great night out, we shopped at a variety of clothing stores and I didn't buy much, considering that I was on a budget. When I finally arrived home, I was drained. I unlocked my apartment, going straight to my bedroom and flopping onto the bed. I unlocked my phone, seeing that I had three notifications. Two were from instagram, and one was a missed call from Joji. I immediately swiped left to call him back, not acknowledging the fact that it was almost 1 in the morning, and he answered after four rings.
"Hey, _____." He said, his voice sounding sleepy. "Hey, did I wake you up?" I asked, instantly regretting calling him at such a late hour. "Don't worry about it." He said. "I called you earlier because I was going to ask if you wanted to go to the beach tomorrow. It's supposed to be like, 70 degrees." I smiled at this idea. "Of course!" I said almost too enthusiastically, causing him to chuckle. "Alright then." I could hear him yawning. "I'm going back to sleep, I'll see you tomorrow." He said. "Okay, bye." I said softly, but he had already hung up.
I opened my eyes, surprisingly not tired at all, even though it felt as if I had gotten no sleep at all. A soft humming was coming from next to me, and when I looked over, nothing was there. The song was strangely familiar, and as I listened closely, it got louder. Soon, it got to the point where the humming was unbearably loud and it felt as if my head was vibrating. Please stop. I begged. And just like that, almost as if whatever was producing the noise had read my mind, everything stopped altogether. A dark figure appeared in the doorway and it seemed to be holding a small object in its hand. It looked like a ukulele, but I, for some reason, thought that it was definitely something else. "It's a ukulele." The figure mumbled in a soft voice that I couldn't identify. At this point, I couldn't tell if this was real, but I was extremely scared. "Who are you?" I asked, my mouth feeling as if it was being weighed down by something. "I am you." The thing whispered before vanishing.
I woke up to the sun shining directly into my eyes. I squinted, picking up my phone to check the time. 9:34. I saw that there were a few texts from Joji on my screen, and I sighed as I unlocked my phone to read them. "What would be a good time to pick you up?" The first one read. "Alright, I'm on my way now, so ready or not, here I come." I stared in shock. These texts were sent 17 minutes ago. He was going to be here any minute. I quickly typed a reply, getting out of bed as I did so. Finally, I sent a text that read, "You faggot, I'm not even dressed yet." and locked my phone, throwing clothes on frantically. I settled on a short floral print dress with my polka-dot bikini underneath.
I grabbed my bag and threw some towels, sunscreen, flip flops, and sunglasses into it. I was checking if I had missed anything when I heard a knock on the door. I stormed through my apartment and opened the door to see Joji standing there, a smug look on his face. "You look excited." He said sarcastically. I cracked an obviously fake smile and hauled my bag out before locking the door behind me. Since I lived on the second floor of my apartment building, getting my bag down the steps (since the elevator was broken,) wasn't very hard. I got into the passenger side of his car, yawning. "Can we stop for breakfast or something?" I asked as politely as possible, considering that I had gotten out of bed 30 minutes ago and still wasn't in the best mood. "Sure." He said, looking over at me and trying hard not to laugh at my frizzy hair and smeared makeup. I gazed out of the window as he started the car and drove off.
