"So Mr. Anderson..."
"John, Rose please. You make me sound like my father." he corrects me with a chuckle that brightens his blue eyes.
"Okay, John what's your story?"
"Well after I finished University my father passed me the business. He trusted me and ever since that day everything I did was to make him proud. To prove myself."
"Thank you but I already know that. Everyone knows that about you. How good you are at what you do, how fierce you can be but also kind when needed. I know all about the charities you attend and all the causes you support. Heck I even know who you date each week. But what I asked for was your story John, the man behind all that." I finish with a small encouraging smile on my face.
"Well who cares about that guy? He isn't the one that is making millions."
"I care. And so many more people. They need to know you. The real you." and with those words I slowly raise my mug and taste the much too sweet coffee leaving him enough time to consider my words.
"Honestly, I don't really know who the real me is either." he answers and for the first time that evening his eyes don't meet mine.
"What do you mean John? You seem too well kept together, for you not to know who you are." I ask a little bit confused.
Just as I notice that he wants to answer the question he is disturbed by the loud ringing of my phone.
"Oh I am so sorry. I totally forgot to put it on silent. Just give me a second."
"No problem Rose, really." he answers and his voice is full with amusement from watching me desperately searching through my much too big bag.
As I finally find the annoying device that disturbed us with the intention of giving the caller a piece of my mind, later of course, because I really can't cuss like a sailor in front of one of the richest person in New York, I freeze in my spot when I read the caller Id.
Why would he call now? Why?
Wasn't he ignoring me?
What does he want? Did he finally grew tired of that bimbo and now he is back at breathing down my neck again?
I just couldn't stop all those questions from filling up my mind.
How could he just straight up ignore my existence for days and then call so out of the blue?
"Rose, is everything alright? Are you okay?" I hear a voice from my right and realize that I completely forgot about John.
"Yes, everything is just peachy." I answer while rejecting his call and also closing the phone.
